I'm investing...

I'm investing in a new bike... Suzi GSX14 !! New stuff on the bike and keeping it really decent for the years to come. Would any of you consider any of the new bikes on the market at the moment ? I mean the GSX14 might start to show some ageing, handling could be better and lighter,... But, again the round headlights are norm on the retro naked this year (Honda CB1000r, Kawasaki Z900,...) and so ours in in style again. And one thing we still got more than any; grunt ! from the low downs. Man, this throttle still impresses and no vibration from the lower revs. 4 inline always ! Keep ya "boxers" on

Well if you are only interested in in line fours I would have to say the Kawasaki Z900rs, it's a brilliant bike, goes well, handling and breaks are great and it look good.  The Honda is a big soft (soggy) bike that looks good but does not deliver.  Yamaha and Suzuki only offer race reps with no fairing.  If anything other than an inline four I would look at the BMW R1200r, a brilliant bike with less weight, more power and the same torque as the 14, or the Ducati Monster, less weight, even more power and the same torque as the 14.  I would rule out the KTM due to it needing more garage time than any other modern bike (read unreliable).
That's my two bobs worth.  :onya:
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

The only other bike from the recent past is the xjr1200/1300 they are getting  sort after now to .
I'm not sure the new Kawasaki will become a collector's bike as it's just bits stuck on a slightly older model bike .
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

That's what I did... and still do (list has gotten smallish by now. In between she gets ridden :boogie:  Very happy with the 14. Looking forward to many decades to come.

Due to budget reasons this is not a consideration with me. BUT, the Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX SE ticks a lot of boxes with me.

The BMW R nineT - love the looks. Looked it over very good during a long talk with her owner last year. Very fine bike.

KTM has a half- (better quarter-) ass warranty (at least in USA). Other issues with the manufacturer overheard at dealership - continuously sending wrong items (not what ordered, incorrect delivery lists).

New bike?   H2-SX certainly gets my attention.

Investment?  The original 1999 Hayabusa in the Copper / Bronze colour is already proving to be holding its value and climbing more than most.

It's often a bike that's top of its class and a high performer. From back in time the Vincent, CB750, the Z900, The GSX1100ET / ET, 1100 Katana, original Hayabusa, to some extent the GSX1400, sports bikes like the first Gen R1 and Fireblade.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the first of the supercharged H2's go the same way in a few years time.

Personally I don't see the latest Z900RS going the same way. It might be a very good bike, but its reasonably cheap not a top of the range bike and it's not a high performer. It's the bike version of the Mini / Beetle / Jeeps that are OK but sell off the image of a truly great bike. Just my opinion.

No doubt largely due to the fact there are few unmodified originals out there.

Even then, almost without exception, a motor vehicle is a terrible investment and speculative at that.
Financial investment that is.

Lifestyle investment well that's an entirely different matter and we pretty much all agree on the value of that !

I watch all the Hayabusa sales, both bikes, parts and accessories like a hawk.

Some near me has a clean tidy low mileage 2022 Gen-3 for sale. Nicer than mine.

Another QLD owners club member has a nice copper 99 first year bike listed.

The 25 year old copper 99 is $1000 more than the waaaaay better Gen-3.

It'll be interesting which, if either sells.

Still loving my ZX14 but would love a busa while I'm still able to ride the low bars. Would love the quick shifter, well, would love to try it. Love the dash on the Busa as well.

Tech on the Busa mostly works well. The vast majority of it is optional, you pick what you want and how you want it. 6 modes but 3 are customisable and saveable. I have number 4 as bare bones, everything OFF and very basic.
2-way Quick shifter, 2 step launch, shift lights, 6-axis IMU, proper cruise control etc all work well and have multiple settings.
I think the Hill Hold is quite poor so turned it off (who needs it?) and the TFT part of the dash should be able to show speed, as my previous H2 and Toyota can.
The Gen-3 doesn't feel as aggressive as the ZX14 but it can be made to just with bolt-ons.
The Gen-3 has better positioned bars than previous Busa's.

The ZX isn't a polite bike that's for sure. Gear changes are nothing compared to the 1402 but something about it I love.

I'd rate the ZX14 as being easily as good as the similar age Gen-2 Busa.
A comparison to the Gen-3 is hard, the Gen-3 is lumbered with getting through Euro-5 with triple cats, long stacks, ECU caps etc where the ZX14 never way, the Gen-3 benefits from modern tech and Suzuki being smart enough to make the restrictions an easy fix.
In XDA class drag racing there's a heap of rules and restrictions to keep it realistic, a Gen-3 recently beat the best ZX14's (that dominate the class) for the first time.
If there was no Gen-3 Busa I'd possibly suffer the lack of cruise control and put my old bones on a ZX14.

Yes cruise control is a great thing to have, err, I assume :)

anyone interested in putting an aftermarket 'cruise control' on a 14, just google "Breakaway Cruise Control"  just make sure you order one for the right size handlebar you have - ask me how I know . . .

I'd like to try or have a good look at a good aftermarket system. I've always found the crude wrist rests and throttle locks awful.

Factory cruise control I love! A + and - setting, deactivated by the clutch or either brake, a resume button, dash setting display etc.

I really thought it would be a novelty and something I'd hardly use, but now I really miss it on my older bikes.

The latest H2 SX SE has up to date radar cruise control, same as my cars, my previous Kwak and current Busa have a more basic system but I still use it daily.  The road I live on is 880k / 550 miles long with some long sections between towns when I'm heading South, more so if I turn off and head West. My aching old bones approve of cruise control.

Hooli

I never thought I'd use cruise on a bike, till I got my HD with it. I use it everywhere now, especially in towns & villages where there's long straight sections the profit camera vans love as 30 is way too low for that bit of road.
