Hi, I have to refurbish a set of forks, I see there are various options available, I have seen the hard chrome finish which just looks a bit dull, I imagine it may be a lot more hard wearing than original.
Philpots and Brook Suspension are two firms I have seen offering  this service, does anyone have any experience of re-chroming their forks?
I would rather use the originals than take a chance on buying some after market ones...

(Just out of interest, what would a pair of refurbished forks be worth?)

Cheers.

I 7sed a.m.philpots for both our 14's 4 years on and probably 10000 miles later they are still as good as the day I fitted them .

Mister Fishfinger

I can't say enough good things about Philpots. Proper old fashioned British craftsmanship. I've used them twice on classic restorations and just had my 1400 done about a month ago.

Cost is about £185 a pair if I recall correctly (that's if you strip them down yourself and send just the stanchions in).

As you say, the hard chrome finish is slightly more "matt" looking than the original shiny chrome. The difference is that it's much harder and thicker, so it actually stays on the forks. I know which option I prefer.

Thanks guys...Philpots it is then...

I've seen the odd bike on here with coloured stations, without sounding thick (as usual :whistling:) is this a chrome finish or something different?
If you are going to run out of fuel, do it in your garage.

It's only a short walk to the kettle.

The coloured finish is a nitride coating a few microns thick on top of normal chrome finish.
I've seen it in gold and black but might be available in other colours .

Forks booked for collection by Philpots next week  :onya:

I have two sets, one from a K2 and one from a K5, is there much difference between the two types? I see the springs are slightly different and the compression adjuster can be completely removed on the later fork.

seth

They are quiet different
The easiest thing to look for to tell them apart is the hole near the bottom of the fork leg is in a different position and the opening at the bottom of the fork where the plastic spacer goes (yellow on 1 and white I think on the other)Is also a different size
I would take pictures to remind you what goes with what or you'll have a nightmare if the legs get mixed up .

Hi Seth, they won't get mixed up and I know of their differences as I mentioned, the K5's are the first ones going away, I just wondered if there is any performance difference in real world use?
Cheers.

seth

That's cool then
As for performance issues both the same and could do with updates springs .
I used hagon or hyperpro ones in mine.
Again different lengths for early and later models.
