Last winter I removed complete exhaust system for cleaning and polishing. All of 8 header bolts came out easily.  :imrgreen:
That was before I read all scary stories about snapped bolts and PITA to take them out! Obviously I was lucky! Now I want to replace bolts with inox/stainless steel studs and cap nuts. Or should I use regular steel studs and inox nuts? I hope I'll be lucky again with removing those...

If you put Nickelslip or Coppercote on them before installing them, you should be fine.

Plus one for Nickel Anti Sieze grease :onya:

I replaced mine with stainless Allen bolts.
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!

i use never seize, thats the brand. excellent stuff. best bolts for exhaust, not sure, anything better than the originals. some say stainless, some say just basic high tensile. confuses me.

So, doesn't matter what type of studs I will use, it is only important to grease it with proper product?

seth

Stainless socket head bolts and anti seize on the threads

Mister Fishfinger

I use copper-based grease, the UK brand name is Copaslip. There are probably local brands of copper grease in your area, it's used a lot on trucks and cars.

It withstands high temperatures and also reduces galvanic corrosion caused by different types of metal being in contact. Very important if you are putting stainless fasteners into aluminium alloy.

Thank you all, decision made! Stainless studs and cap nuts plus copper grease!

Just to be different, I changed my bolts to M8xm6 stainless studs..
Started out with nothing, still got most of it left.
