Hi all,
I'm a GSX1400 virgin - get my first one delivered at the weekend after a lifetime of sports bikes. What I'm wondering is, can I fit the 4 into 2 system from the early models onto the K5 I've  just bought? It may be a bit controversial, but I personally think it looks better.....
Many thanks

Snapey

You sure can and if you use the stock mufflers then that's even better. You just need an early model left rear footrest.
If you look like your passport photo then you're too sick to travel.

Hi Barton,
Very controversial yes!! Wheel barrow look is not for everyone but it's your baby 😀
You'll need a pair of hangers with exhaust brackets which it just so happens there is a pair in the for sale section of this site 👍

Happy barrowing

Hi Barton its not controversial at all a lot of folks do it - one of the members on here is or was selling a pair of rear hangers that will allow you to use a twin system

Pop into the introductions section when you get a minute and let us know a bit about your new bike also location means you may be closer to someone who has already done the conversion

Oh and watch the exhaust bolts there toffee and there are several horror stories of them snapping

Hiya it's usual to say hi in the bar

Anyway a fair few folk have fitted twin pipes 4-2 on to later models
You will need a collector box from a 4-2(After market ones are available) a left and right silencer (standard or aftermarket with link pipes).A early model centrestand And a early left side rear footrest hanger (there are a set on here for sale) they are normally very hard things to find.
keep the down pipes from your k5 as they are bigger internal diameter and give slightly better bhp.

Good luck
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

First of all - welcome. If by your user name you are from Barton. I'm just over the water in Yorkshire.

I believe the centre stand is different on a K2-4 than K5-8. If you are gonna bin your centre stand no problem. But, I like mine. You will need a collector and a pair of cans obviously. You can pick OEM cans up for pennies. But, are as ugly as sin - in my opinion. Go for a nice pair of aftermarket cans.

In all the in-line 4 Suzuki's I've owned. This is the only one I've wanted to keep the wheelbarrow look. All other have had a 4:1 fitted. Not my 14.

By the way I've got a 4:2 collector on eBay at the mo.

Hi Barton..
My K5 is converted to the earlier pipes. It was done by the previous owner so I cant claim the credit. But I too love the looks.

BlueChilly

It was the twin pipes I loved the look of on my K2 when I purchased it... I avoided going for 'power' with a 4-2-1 Akra for some years.  I still have the full original system and centre stand just in case I sell it on one day, then I could sell the PC and Akra separately and gain some more cash back...

BTW the original exhaust system weighs a ton, the turn in to corners of my bike noticeably improved with the fitment of the Akra, and as for power its night and day... I have 126 at the rear now, with stock it was just 108, that combined with probably a 15kg saving = lots more thrust and smiles...
Purchased my GSX1400 back in 2002... still gives me a big grin...
