The bearings need to be pulled and replaced with new. You should NOT reuse them!!!

Red Biker

So.... turns out the bearings were the correct ones but..... it wasn't fully located. Just popped the dust seal off and the axle now goes all the way through 👍

Turns out this was just the start of a long day, it's the first time I've tried to put the back wheel on myself and fun me what a ball ache, could have done with two pairs of hands!
That effin little funny shaped gasket thing, I think I'll be hearing the sound of that dropping on the floor in my sleep tonight!
20 attempts in finally got the axle through with all the bits in place only to realise I'd threaded the wrong chain adjuster on the front end fun me could have kicked the bike over!

Another 12 attempts and 3 hours later success! I'll sleep tonight

Thanks again for all the input from you guys 👍 I'd have been lost without you

Reminds me of my first rear wheel bout. Almost forgot that. When you have done it a few more times you can hardly believe how PIA it was the first time.

P.S. Hot wheels :onya:

Thanks Seth,
It's fingers crossed for the oil pan repair now, used wet and dry to smooth out the scratches and sealed with liquid gasket.
I'm leaving it overnight before putting the oil back in  :notworthy:

Cheers

I've heard of folk using a dowty washer (think its a barmy tip) to help seal the sump plug .

Next time you have your rear wheel out and are putting it back in, put the wheel on a shovel, as leaning on the shovel neatly lifts it up into position, and makes it easier to get all the other bits in place. Also a couple of small dollops of grease hold that pesky "gasket thing" you refer to, in place.

Once you've done it a few times Nigel, it comes much easier buddy  :onya:
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Sweaty

Good to read you finally got it sorted Red, what a PIA that was for you.
Wheels look sensational on the bike though and match beautifully.

As Barmy said use a shovel...OR as I now use..Two large wooden wedges.
You can chock the wheel perfectly in alignment to slide the spindle straight in. It's simple and no effort lifting and holding the wheel required.
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!

Ye as already said the more you do it the better it gets and you will be able to do it in your sleep ... so no sleepless nights then  :imrgreen:.
But the bike is looking sweet !!!  :clapping:
i intend to live for ever or die trying !!

Thanks for all the tips guys, I'll have another chance to put them into action later in the summer when the tyres get changed.

Good news on the oil pan, oil is back in and so far no leak  :notworthy: so started puting a few bits back on, just a couple of down pipes, front fender and calipers to go now.

Had a real golden hour early this morning. Nervously opened the garage door hoping to see no sign of an oil leak after using the liquid gasket on my damaged oil pan.

Success (so far) I did it on Sunday so next stage will be to start her up maybe tomorrow 🤞

Also I had to remove the rear wheel again (don't ask )😢 but thanks to all the tips on this thread I had it off and on again in 20 mins 🤘
