:rofl2: You were pretty hammered there.

The problem with alcohol and diabetes is that the liver has many functions. When dealing with alcohol, especially with large amounts, the liver will have difficulty providing enough glucose (blood sugar) while it is in the process of detoxing your body. Now don't get the idea to use alcohol to reduce blood sugar   Diabetes and alcohol is a bit more complicated than that. The intricacies of this are of more interest if you needed to inject insulin.

Moderation is key here if you don't want to give it up. If you want to party I suggest one bottle of beer (500) at the most per hour. Don't empty it within 5 minutes and then wait an hour. Use the full hour to empty it bit by bit.  Then you can start to kill the next one. Saver it and enjoy!

These things are killer for several reasons. Wiskey or gin on the rocks would be better imo.

Personally I hate these artificial sweeteners. Besides their own health issues they just taste terrible to me. Their chemistry taste overpowers the sweetness they are supposed to deliver.

@seth  P.S. I hold you responsible for me getting up now and putting a Guinness in the fridge

seth

if your going to drink Guinness you have to drink it properly

Seth, something l would advise and l got one and gave it to my mum was a blood glucose testing machine.
That way you can see for yourself how your blood sugars change. Im sure your GP  would give you a script for the test strips. The meters are cheap, the test strips are the costly part. Good for your confidence to see how you are going on a daily basis.
Just as an aside..... am pretty sure that most of the sugar is distilled out of spirits. The alcohol content has an effect on blood sugars, certainly the mixer does.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Been liking Guinness since about 1980. Had an "Irish" pub there. Don't know if I am drinking it properly. Maybe you can advise me how to do that.

Back then someone told me that he saw a documentary about an Irish pub where in an old Irish man said that Guinness wasn't what it used to be. In his younger days the foam on the Guinness was so thick that a mouse could run on it.  :rofl3:

I second that advise.

As to the aside, I recently saw a table that showed alcohol free beer having the same amount of calories as normal beer. Until then I thought most of the calories came from the alcohol - not though ???

Nobody has asked, so I will. How is your eyesight ?.......Not wishing to scare you but diabetes is the leading cause of blindness. If your eyesight has not been so good, you may notice an improvement as your diabetic control improves.
Further advice would be to check your feet regularly as you mention changed sensation in your feet. I always wear shoes or sneakers as cuts or a nick on your feet can be slow to heal due to reduced blood flow to the extremities. Just another reason why exercise is good for you. It keeps the blood moving.
Chasing chocolate mice is not exercise !!  :onya:
