A guy I know happened to have a 50's one armed bandit, he'd had for about 25 years, he mentioned that it never worked right & then it seized solid several years back, so asked if i'd like to buy it, now & know SFA about these things & jumped at the chance!!
Whoever designed these was a genius, very complex & a lot of stuff inside.
Totally stripped it, taking digi-pics as I went along, (about a 100) freed-off, de-greased, oiled & thoroughly cleaned  & carefully re-assembled, some bits LOOKED wrong, so I did it as I thought!!
Worked out exactly how they work & must say, I feel I know them quite well now!!
It had the old Australian Clipsal plug & socket at the back, & had been 'rewired' with a 2-core (no earth) (read dangerous, metal-case)
I removed it all & replaced with modern, flush plug & socket.
It works beautiful now, & is silky-smooth, the front window decal is not good so I made a full size replacement but have yet to fit, so it should soon be like new.
I DO have to grow old, I DO NOT have to grow up.

Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

I like that. Well done. It looks great.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Excellent - Have you adjusted it so you win with every pull of the handle ?  :smile2:
The older I get the better I was
The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

Nice!
Would be interesting to see, what's inside... Is it 100% mechanical or some electronics are also running it?

lawrie

Some 'insider' pics, its 100% mechanical, the only electrics are a couple of 8w florescent tubes, in the top & bottom light-boxes.
While i'm quite chuffed that I managed to fix it, I am in total awe at the people who actually designed it, its mesmerizing to watch it whirring, clanking & clunking as it works!!
Jackie is killing herself laughing as every time I go past the room, I keep stopping & playing it for half-hour, can't leave the bloody thing alone.

Brilliant well done.
Personally I hate them the ruin of many families here in Oz, I have seen it myself.

40 years ago I used to go to the pub with my father in law every Sunday lunchtime. He would put in as much as £15 - my pay then was around £40  a week ! his wife never knew.......  :bugga:

Me too actually, I can't stand ANY form of gambling, always have, BUT, remember, this was another'project' for me to play with & learn something, PLUS, it came with £12.00 worth of 10p pieces already in it!!
So, all I do is to throw it all through the machine, I leave the cash drawer unlocked, have a small plastic tray next to it, then when its all gone, open, fill the tray & start over, what could be better.

Not a gambler either. Dislike it totally. I have a neighbour thats spends  quite a lot each week on Lotto. Much ťo his wìfes dismay. Does she really know how much ....i doubt it.
Last week the jackpot was $38m. It was won and shared by 2 tickets. There were queues out the door of the lotto shops. I do buy a ticket most weeks. $6 is my total spend.
But Lawrie.....your addiction is of a different nature. I totally admire it, very nice work indeed. Enjoy being a high roller !!
