Swing arm grease nipples?

Hi all,

Has anyone fitted grease nipples to their swing arm?
I love this old tried and trusted method of greasing bearings..

If it has been done then what are the precise locations for the holes the be drilled and tapped?

It has been done Speedy, but as for precise locations - pass! Somewhere accessible I'd say with everything in place!!

Having said that it you remove the swing arm and have a good look, all becomes clear as the 2 bearings sit pretty much towards the outside. Whether in the longer term it's worth doing I don't know - it's not a great deal of effort every couple of years to remove the swingarm, clean out the old grease and re-pack with new - in total no more than an hours job.

So I think a nice and useful mod, but not essential.

Hoping to do NZ next year Col, just pricing it up and seeing how the finances lie.

As for swing arm in an hour - taken them out for cleaning and greasing and replacing that many times now, maybe it might take a few mins longer......

Reckon I'd be at least ½ a day, never taken mine out, guess I should & repack the bearings.  I'll have a look at the download section & see what's involved.

Actually I don't think I wrote that one up. But its quite straight forward (assuming you have a mainstand or an Abba stand)

- Remove the swing arm frame covers
- Remove rear wheel, chainguard, torque arm and undo bottom of rear suspension (leave bolts in though for the moment)
- Undo the swing arm bolt and slide it out of the frame, supporting the front of the swing arm. Once bolt removed, slide the 2 rear suspension bolts out and slide the swing arm out (you'll have to navigate through the chain)
- take off swing arm end caps, clean out grease, and re-pack
- Assembly is the reverse of removal - slide swing arm through chain then slide 2 rear suspension bolts in place
- Offer up front of swing arm and insert bolt (you may need a rubber mallet to assist LOL) and screw nut on
- Torque up the swing arm
- Fit rear lower suspension nuts and torque the bolts up. Fit chain guard, torque arm and rear wheel
- Refit frame caps

No need for nipples here. Taking out the swing arm is a good opportunity to thoroughly inspect and clean areas you usually don't get to.  Also a good time to change an endless chain (or vice versa).
