Latest update  - It Lives

I got it started for teh 1st time today (genuinely this is the 1st start)  - there was an attempt the other day but had what I think was a stuck float valve in number 4 carb so back out stripped cleaned (who ever was last in there needs a boot in the baws as they don't know how to use a screwdriver most of the screws were all rounded - all new allen head bolts in now) back in and this time no leaks

also when in the carbs took out the needles and look aftermarket - does anyone know what it is (Carbs are a dark art to me)

Is it a "tickler"?
In days of yore one would tickle a carb to prime it with fuel..
I only ever saw the bit with the spring on so I could well be totally wrong.

Hooli

Looks like a needle. Is that a screw thread at the top to adjust it?

Globalrider

Look'n nearly as good as mine was Del!!!
Good job!
:cheers:Stan
I need to go somewhere I've not been but won't know until I get there!

Mick_J

It's a carb needle, the groves on top are to set the height.  Usually have only one ring on top not two though.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

Mister Fishfinger

Yep it's a carb needle. You can usually set the height by moving the circlip that locates the nylon ring. That's what the grooves are for, they are for the circlip.

If you move the circlip lower down the needle, the needle sits higher in the jet and this makes the mixture richer (because the needle tapers towards the bottom). Conversely move the circlip the other way to make the mixture leaner.

Needles affect the mixture in about the middle of the throttle opening range. At lower throttle settings the pilot jets dominate, whereas at full bore it's all about the main jets.

This bike looks pretty standard so I would start with it at the factory setting and leave it there unless there's a problem.

So nearly finished the bandit build been a fun build if not a little bit frustrating at times - need to get indicators fitted (on route from the far east) - spanner the bike and off for MOT

Here it is sitting beside its stable mate

Very nice...  :onya:

If the front end of the Bandit is a little saggy, give me a PM, I have a set of Race Tech springs which I ordered for the 14 by mistake. They are rated for my weight (100KG).
