The thing about the folk on here is almost all are of a certain age and / or have a passion for things mechanical.  I'm sure a large percentage of the population don't care about anything beyond if it moves forward after they turn the key. What we consider basic knowledge would be a Black-Art for anyone else in my household.

Someone try the test on their wife and kids, mine would probably tell me to piss off!

I think you're right there Tony, we take those questions as pretty simple (even if some written in an odd / ambiguous way) but a lot of 'lay' people probably don't have a clue on most of them.  Each to their own though, it's an interest for us but not for them, same as pruning a rose a certain way doesn't interest me in the slightest - chainsaw at ground level works for me.

When I was a kid in the UK a neighbour put up a fence. He spent ages getting every single post exactly the right height. Took him ages, very long fussy job but he got them spot on.

My Father did his in a fraction of the time, he put all his in high, very high, inbetween, somewhere near, they looked shit. Then he went along and chopped the tops with a chainsaw and they all looked the same !
