just for info
back on the old org years ago someone did a back to back comparison of filters on a gsx1400 on a dyno .
a K&N filter actually flows less air than a stand suzuki filter .
only advantage is you clean and reuse them if you can put up with the hassle but new filters are cheap enough to throw away every service.

only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

It's a shame you can't still get the proper K2 filters. They had a wider inlet & a shorter trumpet inside so would flow more air. All the pattern parts are the later type & the genuine ones got superseded too.  Somewhere I've got the sizes measured up, but it works out to about 25% less intake area on the later ones and that's before you allow for the longer restrictive trumpet.

My bike has got a touch slower since having to fit a later one, but the correct one had done 50k & was rusty so needed to come out.

20 yrs ago my boss had turbo diesel pajero, k&n filter fitted. had been cleaned/serviced a few times. the foamy stuff got sucked into motor, wrecked the turbo. always been a new paper on everything since then for me. i buy quality ones from poland for 14, very well priced. will post link if anyone interested.

K&N filter flows better than original when you grind that intake hole a little bit bigger and smoother. 55.5 mm vs 48 mm in original..
All that black "shit" came during one summer ( about 10 000 km).

I will look at that tomorrow.

There's mine after today.
K&N 52mm intake standard 48mm.
Washed in metho about 50cc.
Have washed this filter about 6 times and there is no signs of it deteriorating. Takes about 2 minutes to do.
I dont use oil, but obviously it is catching crap.
Every time I clean it the bike definately tips in far better in the twisties.

Bloody hell
Just made more room for some of my stuff
My garage floor will never rust

I have just ordered myself a new air filter after seeing that.
