As I am on the hunt for a 14 to buy I got to wondering if there are any particular models to go for or possibly avoid. I once owned a K7 and had no real issues however I did go the 4 into 2 route as I preferred the look. I am currently thinking that rather than buy a later model, maybe I should buy a cheaper earlier bike and spend the difference on quality add on items such as suspension for example.
Thoughts appreciated?
Why shake, rattle and roll when you can ride in style, get yourself a GSX1400..........................Any colour as long as its?

seth

depends on what style your looking for
pre k5 twin exhausts k5 on single can

the early one were slightly different .
fork internals
some had 2nd gear problems
early shoxs leaked quicker than later ones
different fuel ingection factory maps
your more likely to get a lower milage bike
other than that pick the paint job you loke and go for it
ive had a k2 did 32000 miles on it had the 2nd gear problem
3 k6's b/w ones all did big miles no real hassle
and a k5 red/black same as the k6

good luck in your search

it needs a new can as the bazooka is to big but thats exactly the same as my k5 apart from that as depending on registration date you got the suzuki/yoshi can mine has the yoshi can
loads of options to change the can tho.
also has hagon nitro shocks an upgrade from standard.
a very nice bike .
not so many about in red &black but same as all the newer models its even cheap
i paid £5000 for mine last year with 6500 miles on it
its now at 14000 lol

If you read the description in the auction he'll accept £3,500 (last part of the description)

The best model 1400 is the one you OWN.

That one looks pretty good, not much work needed and nothing obvious that would need immediate attention.
Certainly worth a visit to check it out.

Thanks Barmy, as has been said above, £3.5 was the starting price last week, might see if I can temp him but its a long way from me and I have been let down buying without seeing in the past, just concerned about the rust at the shock mount, I mean if if that's on a low mile bike that's been stood, what would the more venerable parts be like, I am thinking fork stanchions etc.

the rust is very minor needs a wire brush and  a rattle can of gloss black over it.
the forks look fine but you can only tell by looking at them in the flesh so to speak
the lowers look like they have been polished .
as for the engine casings they all go like that  they can be powder coated for £20 plus postage and a couple of gaskets or polished .
it all depends on how you feel about the bike
and at 12 tear old it might need a new battery soon and check how long the tyres have been on it as when i got my k5 the tyres were like new tread wise but 8 years old (1st replacements after original set)
ok in the dry but lethal in the wet so had to be replaced .

Thanks Seth - whats your thinking on the above if you don't mind?

"Great Example"

Furry cases, scabby frame around the rear shocks, , missing bar end, no rear guard, odd torque arm, looks like a silly (illegal?) rear light with built in indicators. Mileage is low but it doesn't look a "Great Example" to me.

I'm out of touch with UK prices so it might be OK for the money?
Ask where the bar end mirrors and can went to that were taken off.

id keep looking. needs a fair bit of dollars. great pic of bazooka, one day theyll be worth a fortune.

gsxbarmy

I agree with all of the comments above, there is money to be spent on it, and given the casings etc need work has either been kept outside or is an all weather bike. And why would bits be missing? Stupid advertising like that as it would be better for him to replace those bits rather than advertise as he has.

I think £3,500 is high given it needs work and bits are missing. Going on current UK prices, I'd be looking at about £2,800 tops given the condition. Top examples of 2008 low mileage K7's are selling for about £4,500 and you'd need to spend a fair amount on that one so would be spending similar cash.

Always worth looking down the "Sold" listings to get an idea of how people are buying and prices paid.
