There are plenty more 👍👍👍

It's a pretty cool place there, although changed a lot from what it use to be.

Another Sunshine Coast blast today with a few friends...Chevallum-Peachester-Stanley River-Conondale-Kenilworth-Moy Pocket Road (if you know, you know), Obi Obi Road, back down the hill and home.
Although the track was a little damp, still managed to bed in the new rear tyre and do a little more suspension fine tuning.
The fairly aggressive set up wouldn't suit everyone, but for sports riding I can't fault it!
Bike turns in fast, changes direction easily, holds it's line well, and scrapes absolutely nothing. The rear tyre is used edge to edge, and the tyres are still wearing evenly so the bike isn't operating beyond it's capabilities.
Magic.

Instead of watching what turned out to be a rather boring (for the Swans) AFL Grand Final, around 13 of us did a run up to the Vic high country on Friday and Saturday. Friday out from Healesville, Eildon/Jamieson Rd, Mansfield/Whitfield Rd then the run up from Harrietville to Mount Hotham on mostly wet roads, before the dry long sweepers down through Dinner Plain to Omeo for the motel and pub.
Back via Mitta Mitta, Dartmouth (to see the dam spilling), Dederang, Ovens and Whitfiled/Mansfield Rd the other way. Home via Yea and Yarra Glen.
Was a little damp on Friday and there were a lot more people on skis and snowboards at Hotham than there were people on bikes (er, just us!) - we got a friendly wave and a lot of head shaking from the local pol ice...
Absolutely awesome fun!

For some reason I never imagined Australia getting snow.

Last Wednesday I went on a decent ride through Hardknott Pass, Wrynose Pass and Kirkstone Pass in The Lake District.
Hardknott Pass is not done for fun!!

If you do survive there are some great views.

That's where I was born, Cumbria! Back in the day we'd ride over Hardknott and Wrynose to Ambleside. Have plenty of beers in the Unicorn pub and ride home again. Fond memories...

I do it for fun at least once a year. It's entertaining, especially to watch all the car owners who have no idea how to drive struggling.

I was in the Alps two weeks ago, the smell of clutch & brakes was a sure fire way to know there was a motorhome ahead. It always amazes me how incompetent most drivers are.

Nothing worse than someone playing up to the camera, never catch me doing anything like that, unless...

20/12/2022 Croft Castle & Shobdon (c. 80 miles)

Just a day off the shortest day of the year but at least it was bright and mild after the two weeks of severe cold we had been through and I was feeling in the need for some Motorcycle Therapy.
The GSX had not been out since its new chain and sprockets and because of the grumbling from the old ones I had left it alone for much of the autumn, it seemed right that this was the bike to pick for a couple of hours out.

I didn't go far, just a blast along familiar roads out to Croft Castle near Leominster where I had a walk round with the camera and took advantage of the coffee shop. From there, just a few miles further to the village of Shobdon where a private drive lead me to the parish church – very ordinary looking from the outside but the interior has been given the "Strawberry Hill Gothic" treatment by Walpole and is a lovely example of this type of architecture.

I left he bike parked outside the church and trudged uphill along a grass tree lined avenue to the Shobdon Arches. This is a collection of stone arches salvaged from the original medieval church before it was demolished and incorporated into a folly on the hilltop that also gives some good views over the Herefordshire countryside.

The ride out had been a bit odd, one of those days where I was not entirely at one with the bike – nothing wrong with the GSX itself, the roads seemed to have a lingering damp sheen despite the bright day and I seemed to be over-reading the road conditions, bends and potholes. Perhaps it's just that I hadn't been riding much over the last month... The ride back along the same route was much better, I was back in the zone and I didn't let much get in my way.

Back home before dark, but not enough time to attack the bike with the pressure washer, which would be tomorrow's job.

As usual, there are more photos from the visit in my Flickr photostream (below).
