What were the handguards?

These are the parts you need from an early DL1000 VStrom (bolts required are items 5 and 11 from the second diagrammatic - you can use the existing nuts off the GSX1400 brake lever bolts. Not cheap, but work well and bolt straight on with no modification required

This US made touring-screen looks crap, BUT, believe me, its fantastic at 100, er 70 mph, no buffeting at all & one sits in nice still air, I actually think it may improve the performance as it adds to the streamlining & it also covers the hands so acts a bit like those hand-guards to keep ones pinkies warm!!

Just want to share my resant experience:

2 weeks ago, I purchase new Schuberth C4 helmet, which should be quietest modular helmet in the world... At least they advertise themselves like this. First ride - I was highly disappointed. It wasn't quit at all. Comfortable, but definitely not quit. 
And then, on some reason,  I deside to stand up on pegs, doing ~100km/h. And miracle - helmet instantly became quietest helmet I ever had. I even could not imagine, helmet could be so quit.

The issue is - screen I have on my 14 is lifting all the wind directly to the helmet  . It should be taller, to direct it over the helmet, or much lower, to direct wind directly to the chest. But in second case, I do not see any point of screen at all. May be only some aesthetic. Anyway, first move will be - screen off

Great! You understood Northern!
That is what I have been talking all the time, when I´m talking(writing) about "turbulence generator"!!
That is why very low screen, or no screen at all is the best. (my opinion, in my case). Or then screen should be big as Gold Wings one.

I am a nudist. Even wear open helmet (Jet ? helmet). If I were to mostly ride our Autobahn, I would consider true full fairing.

Can't see being nude on a bike is going to be very comfortable - yer bits would be getting blown around & pelted with bugs, mind you, having yer bits blown can be desirable on occasion . . .
