Hi all, i know its naff all to do with 14s or bikes in general,  but im looking for advice from you mechanical types
Looking to buy a Transit Tourneo on a 67 plate with over 200k miles. Says its mainly motorway miles. Did an MOT check and no mention of corrosion etc just the normal tyres ball joints etc..
So my question is, should I be worried about the mileage and what would I need to look for on these transits? What is this 'wet belt' sorcery that people speak of?
Cheers all

I can't help with the specific model, but 200k on a transit I'd of thought would be fine, all depends on how the engine has been serviced.
I looked up thee wet belt & it's as I recalled, here's googles answer

That's great info thanks mate! It wont be doing big miles as it'll be a family car for my madhouse lol

Typical high mileage vehicle checks to be done, looking for leaks etc.

Re wet belts, if no evidence of the last belt change, get it done as part of the deal to buy it, or ask for money off to put that towards a new one.  If they fail, its new engine time.

Another point would be a compression check and leak down test to gauge ring condition.

If this test doesn't show satisfactory results, walk away.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Hooli

My parents had one a few years ago. It definitely felt like a van with seats, not a car. If that makes sense.

I know they can be van like.. weve had an 8 seater peugeot expert for the last 3 smoke emitting, ball joint banging years and its been a brilliant car for us (4 kids 2 big dogs) but the sills are more filler than metal and its just tired lol
We'll either replace for a younger one or go towards the Tourneo.
Just researching what to look out for 👍

If you do purchase first job should be the wet belt 100%, unless guaranteed evidence that it has been done. One of the work vans wet belt snapped, only 69K miles, full service history & Ford didn't want to know, eventually got 30% contribution off them after 3 months of arguing & having the van off the road. The recommended interval is 100K miles or 6 years whichever comes first

VW now also use the Ford Engine in some of their commercial vehicles, best to try and go foe the 2.2l engine which is still chain driven

I know what I'd do Mate.

Right so the 2.2's are chain and the 2.0 are wet belt?
Ford now saying wet belts should be changed at 40-60k mile intervals..
I would definitely get it done as we normally keep a car for a few years 👍
Thank you 😊
