grog this is a bit of an aside - how would one go about fitting an Anderson plug to allow connection of a trickle charger and/or connection of another battery to assist starting?  (Thinking of my CX500 long term project )

Would it just be a matter of wiring an anderson plug connected directly to the battery terminals, or would it have to go elsewhere in the ignition circuit....

Yeah, you could connect directly to the battery for what you've stated, can't see any issue with it.  But I'm not Grog.

I've done it to 3 bikes before, GSX14, GSX11, Bandit 12,
but I do it as an easy to get to remote charging point.

The 14 has the PC111 above the battery, the GSX11 needs the airbox out to access the battery, the Bandit had the battery lay flat in the tail and was hard to agent to.

I wouldn't consider any of my plugs or leads suitable for jump starting or "assisting" staring though.

WTF.  Did the Japs hire someone from Jag for that design?

1980 Suzuki's.
Airbox is in 2 halfs, and its only the rear half that has to come out.
1 screw to the frame, one huge clip that joins the 2 halfs, then it lifts out.
Battery is underneath.

Not really a drama, I only added some leads as I use a trickle charger when its not in use.

Try pulling the plugs out of a B-King or Hayabusa....  :happy1:

yeah Vlad. just connect to wires going to battery, for charging. much heavier wires to jump start. not sure of size, can find tomorrow.
