Well , it's time to start all those winter projects and get the GSX1400 running some new oil and a new filter, I've just been on Amazon and ordered 2x4 ltr silkolene comp 4 10w40 and a filter as I have no idea what oil is in the bike at the minute, I have a few jobs planned over the winter including a new oil cooler as the one that's on has seen better days so seems best practice to do it all together. I need my wheels re-powder coated white again so that makes access to the filter easier and the chain and sprockets will be changed so while the rear wheel's off the bike I can get that job out of the way and saves taking them off twice, I'm fitting wavey discs aswell so while the wheels are off that can be done after the powder coating. then finally get the timing advancer fitted giving a 4 degree increase and more bottom end punch off the line. She should look the bees knees when she comes out to play next year. What's your plans for your bikes over the winter and what's your thoughts on my plans ?

If your not Going to use the bike over the winter you'd be better changing the oil in the spring or it will absorb any moisture/condensation from the air during the winter .
(If you go for a good ride 50miles plus in the spring this moisture will come back out of the oil)
You'll need 4.8 ltrs of oil for a full oil and filter change .
Good luck with your jobs

Since you are getting a new cooler you have to use more than 4.8 liters.

Andre

I think @Speedy1959 got about 750 ml out of the cooler.

@Andre I was quoting for just an oil and filter change I think with having yo fill a new cooler as well it's approximately 5.2 litres of oil required .

As I couldn't edit my last post to complete the oil amounts
A full engine strip rebuild you'll need 5.7 litres of oil .
All levels are guides never just put that amount in always check the site glass when filling and after a short time of running the motor to make sure the levels are correct .
