Thanks fellas for your very kind remarks, & yes, those 'crappy' rubber washers are the old originals, my new ones I turned from stainless are yet to be polished & new rubber to be cut, pic shows trial fitting with old crumbling rubbers.
Many original nuts & bolts are too far gone, so i'm making replacements from hex stainless & then polishing up all shiny.
