Improvements on exhaust modification ?

  Hi All

           I'm considering carrying out the exhaust mod to my standard cans, as described by Jacog in the above link.
I prefer the style of the standard cans, over the longer Scorpions i removed. but miss the sound.


Anyone having done this, are there any improvements/suggestions to consider before tackling the mod.
Are people pleased with the new sound achieved ?
Does it produce a similar sound to a race can?    is it softer/louder?

Hi I think Speedy did this PM him I am sure that he would be happy to advise help etc. Mind you he has sold his 14 now.

     Just to update this thread:



     After obtaining a spare pair of standard silencers, some stainless steel tubing, 2 x core drills and a cupfull of confidence, i thought i'd give this exhaust mod a go.

     Began work on the left hand side silencer first. leaving the pipe in situ for stability.

1. Drilled 45mm hole into end cap

2. Drilled out the 3 retaining rivets and removed end cap 

3. Attempted to drill through the next inner section but the end of baffle butted up against the inside of core drill bit.

4. Grounded off baffle end with angle grinder to allow better drill access.

5. Borrow another core drill bit with a deeper cutting depth, to cut through the final 3rd section... after further grinding of the baffle end.

6. So now, this should leave me to work the baffle to and fro to break the baffle weld deep inside the silencer.
    BUT the baffle seems impossible to move, let alone work it back and forth.

  It may sound fairly straight forward but it's not, and i was warned of this. All this work done so far has been done as and when i can be bothered.

  I'm in two minds whether to continue with this or sell off some garage stuff and just buy some aftermarket pipes.  :smile2:

Campbells the only way go - sound is awesome  :)

I know there are some Campbells affecianado's on here, but have to say I was very unimpressed with them on my K2 when I had it - forever cleaning the baffle end plates (which soot up very easily, not just on mine) and actually after I took them off and replaced them with Beowulf Tri-Ovals found my K2 went better (so maybe Campbells strangle the exhaust emission somehow, who knows). On the upside though they do look nice and sound nice (on short trips - on longer trips just too damn noisy and gave me a headache).

Since being renamed Growlers and sold from the US, haven't seen many around.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement :lol:

I had twin Campbell's on one of mine, was very unimpressed with the quality, rattling end plates, poor welding, the noise!!!  Can't understand why people are excited about them, they look half decent but that's all

Bob, thanks for report. Ive always drooled over a set of Campbells, just too expensive here. Only time ive seen/heard was a 14 with 3 on each side, obviously no baffles. It was most awesome sounding 14 ive heard, could hear it going up the mountain from home, i reckon 3 minutes. Incredible.
