Gidday Hammy, I've not painted my engine, but there are a few on here who do.  From memory I think they use Hammerite BBQ paint. (Black, sticks good & handles the heat)

Redbiker or GSXbarmy would know.

Halfords own brand gloss Engine paint is very good as is PJ1 Satin Black (bit harder to get these days but great stuff if you can get it (eBay a good source) or Techcote Satin Black (if PJ1 proves difficult to locate).

Hammerite BBQ paint is good more fir downpipes etc IMO.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

I repainted my lads Bandit 600 lump.
Thoroughly cleaned first, then etch primer and Tech Cote Satin black. After paint I replaced all the casing bolts with stainless..They look good against the black.

Before and after pics...

The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

It's all in the cleaning and prep really...It takes a lot longer than the actual spraying.

You think my engines come up nice, there's a guy I know through Facebook called Harry Overton..The man is a bloody magician where engine refurbs are concerned. Some of the work I've seen him do is nothing short of genius.  His company is called Briteworx.
He can do fin repair too amongst his many talents and basically turn an old tatty lump into a stunning piece of machinery.

Here's a couple of his.
Honda CBX 6 cylinder before and after and a Guzzi V Twin lump which is a real stunner.

That Guzzi motor is stunning to look at.  Absolute cracker of a resto job done on it.   The actual design of it though, looks 'agricultural' to me.

Wash your mouth out. Don't say that (even if it's true)
I've always been a big fan of Moto Guzzis and was all set to get one, but having the GSX1400 I will never sell it, and can't afford two bikes.

agricultural, great description. they sound good with decent cans. i test rode a 1100 brevia think it was. just terrible. i really liked the old le mans, they worked well.

Me to i love my guzzi's but the agricultural bit is not far wrong !!  :whistling:  but they were actually designed as marine engines and thats why there very simple and very reliable .
i intend to live for ever or die trying !!
