I am not wishing to teach anyone how to suck eggs but I thought I should point out the magical stuff i am using to lube my chain..
Its a 140 weight gear/ final drive oil made by Castrol.
Its the viscosity of Golden Syrup and it clings like nothing else I
have ever used.
I apply with a brush and work it well in to the roller joints as I
rotate the wheel.
I rotate several times to make sure the rollers are covered..
I am serious when I say NONE goes onto the wheels !!
I use a little and often.. Maybe 2 teaspoons per application....
Obviously I dont ladle it on like theres no tomorrow, as there is
no need to..
At the rate I use it I reckon you should get 2 years from the 1 litre can!

Long been a gear oil person for chain. Castrol vmx80 i use. Have written about it many times. No smell compared to other gear oil. Make sure if brushing, its a soft brush, dont damage seal rings. Spray cans of chain lube total waste of money and effort.

I'll be ordering a can of Castrol Gear Oil today..Sounds far better than some of the chain lubes currently on the market.

I should mention that the stuff I recommended does NOT smell untoward.
I have never been aware of any smell from it in the time I have been using it..

That's good because some gear oil really does stink.
When the engineers remove a side cover from one of the printing presses at work it's a right old pong especially if its hot oil.

many years ago I used to be a printer..
We used Heidelburg Plattens and a " Cylinder"..
The Cylinder was a bruiser of a machine..
Good old letterset days...
