ok, i know im boring but like other opinions. have now restored bars, final top coat today. they look perfect. top coat was rustoleum hammer finish black. my questions are, the hammer finish is not true black, more gunmetal. just how it is. would you go with this colour, no pics at moment. just live with colour. will contrast a bit with frame, motor etc. very similar to sidecover colour. OR should i overcoat with black, not sure if this would work, keep rough surface but just blacken. never tried before. can hammer paint be over coated and keep same effect.

Sweaty

Hard to say without seeing the colour Grog, but I would leave it from what you are saying.
But your the one who has to be happy with it.
Waiting to see pics before I give you my final professional answer  :whistling:

i think hammerite has a cure time of over 6 weeks and should be repainted with a similar based paint.

At work I needed to repair some "fresh" paint after 2 months and it still reacted on the overlap ( wrinkled like a old men parts )

This was the brush version

I agree with Blubber.. my mate sprayed over hammer finish to get the colour he wanted and ended up having to take it all back to the metal again to fix the reaction caused..

My question is.. Did you ever forward the user details to Barmy and did we get anywhere tracking him down? and did the bike ever come up for sale yet?
So if i do stuff all all day and noone sees me do it.. Am i still a lazy git?

grog

Proteous, no to all your questions. have been watching for bike, havent seen. would stand up then. rest of it, just not bothered. i got ripped but have fixed at still a reasonable price. quite enjoyed the project actually. his karma will get him.

grog

sorry to bore you blokes, fixing has also been a boring job. hammerite paint all done. not black as they say, more gunmetal. i like it. might now do swingarm, peg hangers same.
