Just to bring everyone up to speed ......The missing rider was found in a single vehicle accident on the Stanley River road. Another motorcyclist this morning had an off and left the road too. He found the missing rider near where he had fallen himself.

Its incredible the amount of effort and concern that I have witnessed this week as fellow riders have searched not only his believed route but gone further afield in their searches. One group was almost to the area where he was found last night when they ran out of light.

I am saddened by this riders loss and extend condolences to his family and friends on behalf of the entire motorcycling community.

I am heartened that so many people who have never known or met the man took time and made the effort to search high and low for him.

Motorcycling is a unique community and sadly we have lost one of our own this week.

I've been following this story and I REALLY hoped he had just gone off the grid and needed a break from everything.

Very sad indeed.  If two riders have gone down in the same spot there surely must be some issue with the road conditions at that point?  Not that anyone would ever be answerable for that.


A fella I know - Ron - from Land-Rovering was a keen rider as was his son Lee aka 'Bucko'.  Lee was for years the main moderator on the Two Wheels forum (back when that was worth going to) sadly when he was out on a ride he suffered a diabetes episode and crashed as a result. His mates were riding ahead at the time and rode back to see what was wrong when he didn't catch up. Lee had ridden off the side of the road it and it took an extended time to find him, alas deceased.  Vale 'Bucko'.

I actually paid attention to the news and it seems there has been a spate of deaths involving motorcyclists recently in our region.

I spoke to my friend whom is state manager at QBE Insurance and he said it's 45-65 year olds getting back on modern bikes (obviously had licence from their youth) after long periods of not riding. No refresher course with a reputable riding academy of course. He also commented most modern bikes don't lend themselves to "EASY" repair. So minor scratches can be detrimental and if frame is scratched, written off immediately. Rebirthing these bikes is not legal anymore either. No wonder premiums and excess' are ever increasing.

Full comprehensive is 20 times that of liability insurance. I can get another 14 for the three years of comprehensive insurance. So only liability for me. Which is less than my highly valued road side assistance (includes a shit load of additional goodies).

So sad when this happens, but as said above, the effort the motorcycling community make is unparalleled. Such a shame that it sometimes has a such an ending. RIP.
