Just bought a Zumo and am trying to work out all the features etc.

I found a Zumo forum but what I'd really like is if there is somewhere where people have downloadable GPS maps or suggested ride routes.....  anyone know of such a forum / site esp Australia-centric ?

Yep, I've got a Zumo 350.  Think these are the next generation to the 595 & 650, they went down in their numbering?  Dunno.

Garmin are a 'unique' operating system. It's their way or nothing. Just perseverance & read the tutorials.

You could google great motorcycle rides Brisbane, Queensland etc - there are a few good websites around.
I've got the old TomTom rider which has the windy road feature, you pick and end point and it tries to take you through the bendy bits.

Didn't it come with built in maps Mike?

Yeah it has plenty of maps in it, but its the suggested roads, trips etc I'm interested in.

If I'm going to new places I use a program called Tyre ... http://www.tyretotravel.com/download-tyre/

Just plot your route & copy to your TomTom or Garmin. I plan my ride using Google Maps in conjunction with Tyre to get a street view & satellite perspective.

If I post a group ride I show a map using Ride with GPS .... https://ridewithgps.com/choose_account
If you look like your passport photo then you're too sick to travel.

A question - I went on a ride today - when I looked in the files there were a number of gpx files, I chose the one which started at about the right time this morning, opened it in 'Tyre' - and looking at it the route is correct.

However as you can see it has put in a crapload of waypoints, and I've no idea why so many. Certainly too cumbersome to republish like that.

I thought waypoints were something entered manually, but they appear to be auto-assigned by the GPS when logging a ride.

Thoughts?

I'd say it'd have to be a setting on the 595 itself that would require adjusting.

Looking at where these points are, looks like it's where a change of direction / speed has occurred.

Mine doesn't do this, so only stabbing in the dark.

There would have to be a setting on the GPS or Tyre to correct that. I'm no help as my GPS is a very old TomTom1.

As I stated before ... I plot my route on the computer & when happy with the result I hit the "load to TomTom" button. The GPS is connected to the computer of course.

I use the same process as Snapey.... use tyre to create the route I want.. then upload it to the TomTom.

I've also use the TT to record a route I've driven... and looking at that route in tyre it shows something similar as it records a waypoint each time you change direction.... even if it's on the same road.  Not so sure changes in speed are recorded tho....

Mike, why not just use Garmin Base camp & Garmin Express? You can do the same (and more?) on Base camp, and because it's made by Garmin for Garmin it all works together.
Only issue I have with it is not being able to run google maps instead of the one in the Zumo. The feature is there, but I can't get it to work.
