Strong fuel smell

Hi team, just reaching out for your thoughts. I haven't ridden any of my bikes for several months as I've been recovering from a non-motorcycle related ankle injury. Got back from a few days away and the smell of fumes in the garage was overpowering. We've had oppressively hot temperatures in the GC this last week, looking at the thermometer, well over 46°C in the garage in the afternoons.

There's a little fuel/oil mix on the floor, I assume from the fuel breather/overflow. I haven't started her up (flat battery) just wheeled her outside to let the fumes dissipate. A couple of days later, there is still a strong smell even though she's outside.

I'm considering stripping down and cleaning the fuel system but looking at the pics, I'd be interested in your advice.

Thanks in advance
Joe

Interesting first post Joe.
You may receive a more civil welcome and possibly a response if you introduce yourself.
Good luck 🤞

One hit wonders. I used to try to help but not anymore.

Morning Joe, as said by others a lot prefer an intro in the appropriate section although I see you've been a member for ages & just not posted.

I'd suggest taking the tank off & checking the low pressure hose that runs from the back of the tank to the swirl pot. I've had one perish & give a constant smell of fuel & a slight drip. It'd be about the right place to dribble down to where you're seeing the dampness, it'd also explain it being on the outside of that breather pipe.

Joe

Thank you Hooli,
Yes, I've been a member for many years, the site is an excellent source of information. Luckily, I've never needed any help so never posted in the forum, I'm still trying to get my head around using it. I apologise if I've offended anyone.

I thought I had introduced myself when I joined way back when.
I'll introduce myself

Cheers
Joe

Hey Hooli,
You were bang on the money!

The 'Hooli was right' and 'Hooli is correct' comments are well deserved.
Thanks again!!

Problem solved,
Bluey rides again!!

Excellent, easy fix that.

We've also found if you get a small inline filter & put it in that pipe (check as you lower the tank to see where there is space) it catches a lot of crap that flows up the pipe as you accelerate (the fuel sloshes back & along that pipe to keep the swirl pot full) this saves cleaning or replacing the teabag.

I should have said that before, sorry.

I have to make it clear my comment "Hooli was right" had feck all to do with motorcycles, it was about cooking chips in an air fryer or deep oil fryer, since then I have prefected them in an air fryer so he's now no longer right  :)

It's not my fault you're now incorrect!
