"Carb Horns"

Just out of interest,
What are the pro's and cons to using carb horns instead of filters ?

Ya mean flared out more? Wider at the entry?            Cause they look fairly round in the pic.

They look good and may a bit of power but the engine life is going to be a lot shorter.  If you do go ahead put a mesh over the end to stop anything large getting down there.

I remember having carb horns on my VTR, separate to the rounding mentioned above, I remember that the length of the horn itself affecting the power characteristics, can't remember which way it worked, but the length affected where the power band came in

In the real world we call them velocity stacks.

They look cool as hell...BUT
As Dave said..Length does affect performance (fnar fnar) 
If some sort of filter isn't fitted all sorts of muck will get sucked into the engine, including small dogs and kids if they get too close

Mainly used for racing I believe.

Oh and the best benefit of velocity stacks as opposed to pods or worse stock airbox......  induction roar !!!!

Who wants that? Most of us oldies like the exhaust note and wear feggen earplugs!
