Hi everyone,

Hoping you guys can help. I have recently bought my '03 GSX 1400 and noticed that when starting the bike from cold it idles first at around 1900 then drops to 1350/1400 rpm after 20-30 seconds. I have had a play with the throttle slack adjusters at the bars and they are set correctly with no change in engine speed lock to lock and the throttle snaps back to closed at all bar positions.

However I have noticed that if I "push" the throttle closed (no more than 1mm probably) even further the idle will drop to around 1100rpm.

Is this faster than usual idle something that I can adjust mechanically or is it an electrical (TPS) adjustment / fault?

Thanks in advance

James

Intros are a good idea, your question, all sounds like its perfect.

Gidday James, welcome to the forum. Both of what Grog said is correct, we do prefer new members to introduce themselves in the intro section & your bike is behaving as it should on start up, they run fast for a bit then settle down to 1100rpm. No need to adjust anything,  its as it should be.

Morning, as said an intro is liked here.

Having said that, the faster idle on starting is normal and those speeds sound typical. If once warm it's till too high (should be 1,100rpm) then there's a black adjuster knob under the LH side of the throttle bodies to set the warm idle.
