Exhaust bracket advice please?

My GSX had its annual MOT test today and passed again which is welcome.

However the mechanic who tested it mentioned that one exhaust bracket had rusted through and another one was nearly gone.

Now, as you know I love riding the thing but am not much up with the mechanical side of ownership...

A quick look when I got home suggests that it is the item that I have circled on the diagram, unfortunately it does not have a part number:
6] is the manifold body
7] is described as a connector but just looks like a sleeve or gasket on the diagram.
8] is the "bolt muf sprt rr", so presumably just a bolt.

Can anyone clarify what I need, is it just simply what I would call a jubilee clip to clamp the downpipes to the manifold, or is there some further connection to the bike?

You're correct Pete, it's just a 'fancy' jubilee clip.  However, installing a couple of them will mean getting the exhaust & the collector off & re-installing them with the new bits in situ. It's not a major job, but one you may wish to pass on.

Give Hooli a yell, he seems to be in the fix it business lately . . .

I replaced all of ours with stainless ones from amazon .
Got 15 for about £20 I think .

Just a quick note.

I replaced mine a couple of years ago and from memory the old ones are welded on so you will need to file the area flat before fitting the new jubilee clip.

I'll try and motivate myself to lie down on the garage floor in the cold and see if I can get a better look.

Mine are probably welded on by rust, I've obviously not been paying enough attention to cleaning down there 

Hopefully the one that has gone through already can be removed to give me an idea of the size I need to order. As Seth says, Amazon is probably going to be my friend here, at £57.95 each I don't think I'll be doing business with Fowlers, even if they had them in stock.

I removed what was left of the welded tab without removing the manifold, replaced both sides with stainless steel jubilee clips . They should un screw completely to open the clip enough to pass around the manifold and reconnect the ends into screw part and. Then screw them screw them up tight.

If it helps anyone, here's what I did with my exhaust clamp replacement...
Even tough suffering the effects of entropy and the bottom half having disappeared completely, the old clamp had to be persuaded to leave by means of a hammer and chisel

I found some double-headed hose clamps on Amazon and ordered a pair thinking that I could open up one side completely and simply slide it down the downpipes to avoid dismantling the silencers, collector box, pipes etc.



I managed to do just that. Of course, one of the bolt heads becomes inaccessible, but by getting some tension on one side, just enough so that the clamp can still be rotated, it can them be swung round enough to get the Hex key in to fully tighten it from the other side.
The clamps I ordered were for 45-55mm but I think I could have got away with a slightly smaller size. On the ones I bought it resulted in the bolts being a bit over-long making rotation more difficult as they caught the underside of the sump. When I come to do the next one, I may cut down the bolts a little.

Easy job in the end and enough time left over to do a bit of cleaning down there. A new contender for shiniest park of the bike – well, until I find the first wet road...
