Is there a way to do an 'immobiliser delete' ?

I think at some point I'm gonna need a new ignition barrel and key and I don;t fancy paying $$$ for an immobiliser key if I can help it.

Yep mine's K7

Vlad, just spoke to locksmith, he'll fix  barrel, doubts it needs key.my lock still sticky with spare key which is hardly used. $50 to $150 only, if i take barrel in.

Hooli

Strip n rebuild the barrel? It'll be the little brass slidey bits that have got manky & dirty. I did a guide once for the earlier ones but I don't think the physical part of the lock changed when the immobiliser was added.

1, How to remove barrel?

2. I'd still like to  get rid of the immobiliser if possible.

Pretty sure I went & found Hooli's post of barrel stripping & refreshing a short while back for someone else.   Big hammer & side cutters will do the job.

Given the key "talks" to the ECU, hence the ECU requires that signal for the bike to start/function - I think it highly unlikely it can be removed @VladTepes
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

If you get a new barrel and key just take the old immobiliser antenna off and hide it under the tank with the old key taped to it.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

Just no need. Either fix barrel as Hooli posted or get locksmith to do. No need to change key or electronics. Just the mechanical part of lock barrel needs attention. Mine does also. Easy fix. Woolich will re flash ECU, no more Immobiliser, race mode. Bit like selling your bike because it has a flat tyre.

Why? Apart from the K5 antenna issue I've never heard of a problem with them. Plus do that & you should tell your insurance it's modified to reduce security, I can only see that putting premiums up.

Whoa that's a bit ghetto!  Perhaps I'll just take everyone's advice to leave it alone. :)

Does the transmitter in the key have to be physically attached to the key in the barrel to work, or can it just hang on a keyring which will be right next to the receiver when it's on?

I can get a decent lock set for the price of getting the barrel sorted to work with my worn key..

If it does work on proximity, does anyone know the range?

Ta.
