Crash bobbins

I have a set of crash bars on the bike at the moment, but I want to change them for bobbins. The r&g ones are £180ish, but powerbronze do some for £130ish. Does anyone have any experience with either of these 2 makes of bobbins?

In all honesty Duncan the crash bars do a far better job of protecting the bike in the event of an "off" or just dropping it. Bungs can dig in and cause untold damage to the frame if the bike slides. In some cases they can even cause the whole bike to flip resulting in a write off.
I fitted genuine Suzuki crash bars to mine. They are not as ugly as some of the items on the market. Quite hard to find now though I believe. Unfortunately I'd already had an off on ice, resulting in a broken generator cover, dented tank, damaged clock casings, bent clutch lever and forks twisted in the yokes.
The crash bars if fitted at the time would have probably saved a lot of damage from ocurring.
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!

Ditto what Froudy said - I had an off in Scotland and the bars saved the day! I broke my foot but bar on the starboard side bent but held. Bar end and mirror toast.

14s slide down the road quite well on their sides without bars or bobbins tbh. Mine has a few times, yeah the last time I had to fix a tiny crack that was weeping oil from the ignition cover but never mind.

Duncan, no way id take my bars off to just have bobbins. I made up axle bobbins for front n rear. Skateboard wheels, threaded rod and some nuts n washers. Cost $20 and reckon theyd do same as big brands at lots more. Just my thoughts.

The crash bars I have on at the moment, give me the impression that if I did have an off, they could potentially trap or damage my foot or leg. Hence why I wanted to move to bobbins. I like the bars you have on your bike froudy. They don't seem to wrap around the engine so much. Can they be ordered through suzuki?

I have R&G crash bungs they fit well neatly .
I also have a set of R&G lower sliders that fit the bottom 2 bolts of each casing you don't even notice them unless your told about them.

Engine bars for me every time :onya:. Whats more, they suit the bike adding to the `bling`. Far more protection should the worst happen....leave the bobbins to the sports bike junkies ;)!

I have the same - the frame things and case sliders.
Not as 100% effective as bars, but I prefer the subtle look.
And I am sorry to report that I know from experience they do a reasonably good job.
