Having battery issues. Tested the stator and getting AC voltage reading above 60v for all 3 wires at 5k rpm but it's shorting to ground so possibly it's the reg/rec?

I want to test it to be sure but wondering if there's an easier way to remove it than what the manual says?

With a lot of swearing you can get them out without stripping the bike down. Just expect to dislocate your wrist & skin your fingers.

The reg/rec bracket is held on with rivets, I just tore mine out when I took my reg/rec out to test. They'd got loose on mine anyway so I needed to sort it. I put the bracket back with nuts & bolts.

Where are you? I found it quite straight forward to remove the reg/rec.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

I'm in Northamtonshire. Just pain having to take the rear cowl off or at least pull it back. Made a bit harder because I made a custom number plate/indicator bracket that bolts onto the frame.

You can do it without removing all that, it's a twat but it can be done once you work out how to get your hand in the side.

Too far to pop over and do it for you.  If you have a main stand put it on a 1" plank to raise the bike higher and remove it from underneath, no other things need to come off the bike.

I managed to do it. Couldn't slide it as far back as I wanted to be able to but moved it enough that I could get ratchet up from underneath the bike and loosen the bolts then use a small stubby cross head screwdriver to get the bolts out completely. Getting it back in was more of a struggle lol. Tested rec/reg and it appears to be fine so seeing as the stator is shorting to ground then must be that though it's still giving AC voltage but this can happen. I don't really know much about electronics so confused me a bit but the shorting is a problem when it gets the the reg/rec and the AC and DC get mixed up.  :whatever: So I'll give the connectors all a clean to make sure that there isn't something stupid going on with dirty connectors I doubt it but I'll grab at every last straw before taking the cover off and the having to mess around getting new gasket and even just taking the cover off will be a pain  :frustrated: only 53k on the clock seems a bit low for stator issues even my old bandit 600 hasn't had stator issues with close to 60k on the clock but then the stator on that is external so probably doesn't get as hot. But I'll do another test just to be sure then take stator out and have to get a new one and hope my diagnosis is correct not that I want it to be correct.

My first stator went at 80k, the second lasted 40k. You're into the mileage it might be failing.

Hello Mikesaa.I would recommend ringing rexs-speedshop . I found them really helpful, when I had charging problems that I was told reg/rec. got it all off and found it to be stator, a talk to them ,check as advised . Stator re-wind . All good and guaranteed .ps a lot cheeper than Mr Suzuki.
