Been wanting to do this for a while. Installed the DL1000 hand guards (suzuki part number 57300-31851-291)

Picked them up from WeBike wed site out of Japan for $85 delivered (just under 2 weeks). Bargain.

The guards were easy to install with no problems. Like they were made for the 1400. Seems a universal part from what I've read.

Anyway... first time for me riding with some kind of hand guard and I'm impressed. Hands and arms are steady at high speeds and the wind and chill factor is practically gone (not that it gets to cold here in Queensland). Definitely no need for heated grips. As you lift your hand you can feel the wind outside of the hand guard. Interesting.

So, I'm going to go with for the rest of winter and then just whip 'em off when spring arrives. It's a big +1 from me on the product and I think they look OK. Nice change to the 1400 for a while.

Irish in Oz

They slow the bike down to much and increase fuel consumption.

GSX, one day youll get old arthritic hands like me.

I saw 10 degrees C heading though Wamuran this morning, after that it slowly went up to about 24 C (that I noticed) Took my jumper off at breakfast and never put the winter gloves on, just used my thin summer ones. We are into the 2nd half of Winter.

To be fair, I often fitted hand guards to my Winter rat bikes in the UK.
Just keeping the icy wind blast off made a real difference.

Tried years ago to wear gloves for winter and just can't handle them. Very much like work and using protective gloves, very awkward. I tried quite a few over the years.
Trouble is during summer here in Australia (like, 11 months of the year up here in Queensland) my hands get sun burnt and sun skin cream is just unreliable (I hate the feel of it). A mate suggested fingerless gloves. What a revelation. Gives me complete hand coverage from the sun BUT the fingers still give me good touch and feel of the brake and clutch. I may get bagged for this but I use Harley Davidson fingerless gloves. Very good product. Great wearing and quality that fits me like a second skin. The link below shows what I have but I got them at half price (yeah, there are probably cheaper whatever out there BUT I got to see the harley bikes).

They look good fitted :onya:
Wish I'd fitted a pair 7 years ago when I really started serious winter commuting. Last winter I decided enough is enough and this is my cure for cold hands for the next winter :imrgreen:
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!
