Are these volts right?

Hi all,

Another in the series of dumb questions from a new owner (k6).

Original battery is starting to leak a bit - time for a new one.. easy fix.

During the process I've put a multimeter over the battery, at idle 14.20v at 5000rpm 13.8v. I wanted to confirm old age and not a rectifier overcharge issue.

Do they sound right? I wasn't expecting the 0.4v drop.

Also any suggestions on batteries?

Thankyou

Paul

Hi, Paul (thought you were Barbz?) Grog will be able to answer that in a flash, he's got a volt meter on his bars, so he'd be able to tell you what the voltage is at 5000rpm.  14ish at idle is good, 13.8 while riding is fine too.

Yuasa have a great reputation with this bike.   If you're replacing yours now, chances are it's the original battery it came with.  Have a look at the date code.  They've been known to last 7, 8, 9, 10 & more years from new & they were Yuasa batterys.

Totally agree Col.
My bikes a 2004 model on its original battery.
Mine is never on a trickle charger and my bike lives outside..
It starts first time every time but I do regular long rides and more importantly I NEVER leave an aftermarket alarm fitted (if the bike comes with one).

perfect voltage mate. mine starts high then settles to 13.8/13.9 at general riding. my original batt lasted 9 yrs, usually around 180cca. motobatt just 2 yrs, same cca. my new is a superstart hvt, rated at 200cca, tests at 350. certainly starts well.

Thankyou,

Will replace it and look no further.

I have a Lithium Iron battery in mine going for its 5th winter never on trickle charge.
By Lithium Iron standards my battery is a dinasor with the new stuff out now.
