I am giving serious thought to pre buying a Yuasa battery to keep for when I need it..

Rant and rave all you like, but I'm afraid I'm going to disagree and say that actually I don't think it a bad idea, in fact I applaud the move, call it a tax or whatever you like, but quite frankly this acid throwing is getting out of hand and there have to be some controls put in place and they have to start somewhere. OK, we may not like them, but does it really affect us? No, as we can still buy batteries already filled and charged from dealerships, buying online saves not a lot in any case. And how often do you buy a battery? Once in a blue moon.

Having had a mate suffer one of these attacks - fortunately only slight - then anything which can help stop idiots getting hold of this stuff has to be a step in the right direction. Maybe if you'd suffered acid burns then you'd have a different point of view. The disfiguration from it is (or can be) for life, the pain from it is not clever either.

To me this is a step in the right direction - it might not be the right step - but at least a step has been taken.

Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

I was lead to believe the scroats obtained the chemicals from drain cleaners etc..

Maybe I am wrong..

Sealed/gel/lithium are the way forward, as Barmy says, trying to close the door on acid attackers is the way forward, other chemicals are also being restricted.

An inconvenience yes, a life changer? No, except for potential acid attack victims.
If you are going to run out of fuel, do it in your garage.

It's only a short walk to the kettle.

@grog

It's a shame my ebay history can't look back further than 2016, so I can't find the retailer.

But I bought a Yuasa battery (came with separate electrolyte pack) and it has been performing flawlessly.

So definitely go that way IMHO.

ebay options seem to be:
batterymart809  98.5% Positive feedback (still a good score)
mxstoreaustralia  99.9% Positive feedback  (possibly slightly more expensive than above)
Ottomans: 'Hippity hoppity, Vienna's our property"
...and then the Winged Hussars arrived.

Mine hardly started this morn. Bought a superstart HVT8. AGM battery with 300 cca claimed. Best ive ever had Yuasa, Motobatt was 190. Tested at 347 tonight. Will see how it lasts. Certainly zings the starter over.

I've used MDS Batteries for a while now. Good price for Yuasa and a good company to deal with :onya:
The last one I got from them I kept in the shed until I needed to change it. Went to go for a ride out and the original Yuasa had died. I just fired the acid pack into the new battery, fitted it and the bike fired straight up with no need to charge it.

Sounds like the way to go Grog.  Not heard of them here yet though.

That's a great wee meter you've got. What's it called & how much are they?
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Col, DHC is  one in pic, just my home one. Works well $100. My work one is Midtronics, amazing machine. Gives paper printout, around $800.Both save all the guess work, measure batt and give results.
