hi everyone. I'm a newbie here but i need your help. I'm not very technically minded so bear with me.
Ive owned my 14 since 2007 and love her to bits. I've covered 32000 trouble free riding but after the winter lay up I now have a problem.
Start her up there is no fast idle and the FI light comes on. She rides fine, no loss of power so I put her into my friendly mechanic to look at.
He's told me i need a new set of throttle bodies complete with secondary fuel pump which is in the center of the 4 bodies. Apparently the pump has gone faulty and can't be replaced separately. He's quoted me £1150+vat to replace. Thats mental. Can anyone help? Either is this pump repairable and how or does anyone know where i can source this secondary fuel pump?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome glad you found us
There is only 1 fuel pump and it's in the tank
The part between the throttle bodies is the butterfly(throttle valve) actuator motor .
Go look through the forum and you'll find how to put in dealer mode (It a 4 pin plug by the ecu/battery on the left side )this will give you a fault code and point to the problem that's putting the Fi light on.
Where are you as someone here might be able to help you.
I've had 7 gsx1400's since 2002 been on all the orgs over the years and never heard of a set of throttle bodies having a problem other than dirty/clogged injectors again info here on getting them cleaned and serviced.

Also head over to the bar and introduce yourself

A second hand fuel rail can be had much cheaper than that.

But....

The secondary throttle valve actuator has a "know" defect...The Magnet in the coil comes loose sometimes. In a few instances a dab of magnet glue is enough to fix the error.

Worth a try.

Failing that... All years of the 1400 injectors fit. Ebay is your friend
The parts numbers do differ but that is due to a different material of the fuel rail...So i am told.

Welcome btw

Welcome  :hat:

First of all there is no such thing as a secondary fuel pump! Probably means the Secondary Throttle Valve actuator (STVA)

Secondly, when the FI light comes on there will be an error code displayed if you put it in dealer mode. See here for a description how to put it into dealer mode: http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=21.msg1583#msg1583 . If the STVA causes the FI light to come on it should show a C28 as the error code.

I have seen used complete Throttle body assemblies offered for as low as 120 €. It might even be possible to repair the STVA.

To test the STVA see page 4-42 in the Service Manual (can be had here in the download section.

Lastly, please introduce yourself in the Introduction section. We all love to see a picture of your bike :)

What they said about the STVA.
It's also worth checking & resetting both TPS, if the STPS (on the RH side of the bike) is set wrong then the fast idle won't work, I've had that in the past.

Mister Fishfinger

I think I would be looking for a new mechanic.

Gidday Oldgit & welcome to the forum.  Unfortunately, it sounds like the mechanic you've taken it to is ripping you blind!

Where abouts are you located?  There are members all over the UK & most would be willing to assist you in diagnosing / fixing this issue.  I doubt very much it's anything too serious, as if it was going fine prior to the winter & now it isn't, can't be too much really.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

The throttle bodies need to be separated to gain access to the STVA but once it's in your hand it can be repaired as long as you don't need parts. The problem will be if you need just a part or a complete STVA nothing except the complete fuel injection has a Suzuki part number.

Your mechanic has read Mr Suzuki's manual which told him it's not fixable and the replacement is a complete set of throttle bodies so don't be too hard on him.
If you look like your passport photo then you're too sick to travel.
