Title: What sensor is that?
Post by: KiwiCol on Tuesday, 04 April 2017, 06:37 AM

The TPS is on the left hand side of the throttle bodies, yeah, so what is the sensor on the right hand side in the same position?

Did a check on my TPS yesterday (was wet / dreary day) First I tried Alphadave's method posted by Rickc. Found out there's no contact pins in the pic as indicated by the arrows. Searched around various combinations of contacts, & found 2 that worked (sort of) in conjunction with the throttle being moved.
Problem I had with that, was reading was .482 ohms, open up the throttle & it goes to .812 ohms.  Right, bugger this, leave everything like it is & take the tank off & do it that way.

Interesting location and access to the black 3 pin plug!!  Managed to get to it & undo it. Checked it 'properly' and got the same bloody readings as the first method!  Can't be right?  The bike is running good, maybe a little rich, but fine really, and with a sensor which appears 'shot' it shouldn't be running fine - one would think.

So, I loosen the screws and move the TPS while the bike is running, effectively telling ECU the throttles have opened & see what happens, it basically floods - like putting the choke on with an old bike / car. This is as I'd expect, so, the unit is working, but I have this odd reading and no where near 1100 ohms & certainly cant get anything like 4300 (or whatever it is) at WOT.

Bit of a ramble, but,  2 things, what's the go on the TPS reading like that & what is the other sensor on the RHS, a 2nd one maybe? Possibly the ECU is getting info from that one?

I've had a look at new TPS sensors from Robinsons & e-bay.  Expensive little bugger aren't they.  I'm a bit loath to spend a couple of hundred on a new sensor to find it makes no difference to the bike.

Maybe I'm taking the reading incorrectly, dunno.  I did the yellow & black wire reading.  Perhaps I should have tried other combinations to see if I got something like 1100 ohms.

Thoughts guys?

On the right side is secondary throttle position senzor  ;)

Yes its the Secondary Throttle Valve Actuator (STVA) this is the sensor that was causing issues with my C28 and C29 error codes. Different all together from the TPS. Dont replace the wrong one. Those readings your getting are about right for the TPS but the STVA has much greater differences. They are not the same resisters in there.

@Proteous

Are you sure the readings I got were about right?  I got .482 ohms (or there abouts) at closed, thought it was supposed to be 1100 ohms?

Sorry, yes, your right TP should read 1.1 to 4.3 Ohms
and the STVA should be around 4.8 to 7.2 Ohms

I got confused between what they should be and i was reading lol.
Make sure your testing the restitance on the yellow and black wires.

Sorry everyone, going off my memory when I took the photo.

It should be the top plug with male pins as per this photo, I'll edit the TPS thread
to reflect this as well.
