I changed the cam cover bolts to stainless steel - all were fine and set to torque as per Barmy's list but the front offside went in fine then seemed to go loose as its was nearly fully home so removed it and tried another bolt and that was the same - now it is weeping. i am not mechanically minded and have no idea ! :bugga:
It sounds like the thread may have gone Notty - can you get any tension on the bolt or is it just loose?

it comes out fine Dave, goes in fine it gets tight, torque wrench still not clicked and it then goes loose :bugga:
Have you tried a different bolt in there or the original again? Also what washers are you using, are you re-using the originals or the ones that came with the bolts (myself I re-used the originals).
If you put the original bolt back it, does it do up ok? Just wondering if this is a dodgy bolt possibly

Using original washers - will try the original bolt tomorrow - its only weeping so is it ok to ride the bike? :bugga:
If its only weeping - yes, I'd say so, but just check it is still only weeping after a couple of miles

If you have (and I think you have) it will need to be repaired professionally, probably with a helicoil. A decent bike shop should be able to do it for you.
Do not keep putting bolts in and out until you have it verified as this could cause more damage, if there is a bolt in it now leave it alone until you can get it into a workshop and take the cover off to check, if it'd not leaking too bad I would be tempted to put a silicone over the existing bolt, this would allow you to ride it until you an find someone who can do the job properly but whatever you do don't leave it like that.

I had one repaired on a 600 Bandit many years ago by a very good engineer in Bristol. He fitted a Helicoil with everything in situ.
Rode in after a phone call to make sure he could do it and rode out an hour later..All sorted for £20.

If its weeping at the bolt head, take it out, clean it up and put some three bond between the underside of the head of the bolt and the rubber washer until you can get a insert put in the casting
