Title: Removing road grime from a ride - when out and about.
Post by: VladTepes on Monday, 27 March 2017, 10:38 AM
I'll give the bike a clean before heading down to MCR later this year but by the time we blokes arrive the bikes will almost certainly be covered in dead bugs and road grime.

Obviously I can't be carrying a full cleaning kit around with me. What might be a good option for this scenario ?

We want our bikes looking as pretty as possible for the photos !

Best solution to that would be to fly Barmy (and Spiz) in to the meet & they could detail each bike as they arrive.   Yeah?    Plan or wot?

Barmy is due to arrive in Aus the day after MCR9  (bad timing) but if he cared at all he'd come  a few days earlier wouldn't he !

So long as the kit is supplied with elbow grease, I'm sure there'll be plenty of takers.

Spend a few bucks on a can of Pledge and a nice soft rag.

vlad, get some fully slick, bowdens. spray all over, bugs will then just wipe off with a micro fibre towell. as far as motor bits, no clue, sorry.

Michael,
Pledge is a serious suggestion, I used to use Plexus which is great for cleaning all sorts of plastics but it's about Aus $30 for a small can.
Some googling found quite a few sites talking about using Pledge instead of Plexus, Plexus was originally used to clean aircraft canopies and there are
a few returns of people using Pledge to clean canopies instead.

I've tried it for about a year or so and it appears to perform as good as Plexus but it's $3 or $4 for a large can, works really well for removing bugs, road grime, chain lube etc.

Cheers,
Rick

spray on before or after it gets dirty?

Before it gets dirty, it's a polish of sorts.

Spray it onto furniture (wood NOT fabric) n wipe it over. Leaves a nice shine & a protectant coat on the surface.

It is very good at cleaning plastic as well.
