On a more serious note.
I hope all you Queenslanders get through the coming storm without any problems. We are hearing its gonna be a big one. :onya:
Wot storm? Queensland having a storm? I've missed that. Best I watch the weather tonight then.
TC Debbie up north due to hit around Bowen tomorrow morning. Cat 4 predicted.
It's starting to get rainy ahead of the storm proper....

predicted track: http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65002.shtml
Oooow, that's ugly. We very rarely get anything like that here, seems to often happen to that bit of coast though.
More insurance claims.
heads down for that storm hope you guys get through it ok :onya:
good link - check this for a radar loop http://www.goes.noaa.gov/sohemi/sohemiloops/shirgmscol.html
great link vlad. all history says se qld gonna get swamped. feel sorry for those in the route of the winds. been thru one, just scary shit. for you uk people, its 700 ks in length. hard to comprehend.
Well it appears it has slowed in its track and latest forecast is not for landfall until around 2pm.
(originally expected 8am). The waiting game.... nervous time for some people up in the north.
Jeez Vlad they are reporting a wind gust of 263kph. That is honking.
Yep, faster than a GSX1400!
This was reported on the news in the U.K. last night, showing just below Tiwnsville with a track to the west of Brisbane. Jeez it's some storm! For those who are in its tracks, good luck, that is some storm
It's been downgraded to a cat 3 as it has begun to move inland. Maybe slower than usual to dissipate, we'll see.
Brisbane will end up with some rain but is too far away for any other effects from it.
Now the clean up begins, poor buggers. Sure has done some damage looking at our news.
Does anyone on here live that far north?
Based on the member map....
wombat956 and mrb14 live in Rockhampton and Yeppoon so should have dodged it.
turkperkins lives in Cairns - far enough north not to be bothered by it.
Of course, if people haven't put themselves in the member map its hard to know if anyone else is potentially effected :)
One can only hope nobody or 14's were harmed ;)
hope all are safe and sound
I stayed home today - they closed the state schools in the bottom half of the state due to flash flooding risk.
Were also concerned about strong wind gusts.
As it happened we got a lot of rain - heavy and constant, but not constantly torrential...
No significant winds to speak of.
Would be a shit of a day on the roads though...
The trains usually go to shit in this weather too, but the are showing (currently) only minor disruptions... on all lines....
AH well.
the end of cyclone debbie passed thru today. i worked in it, not too bad. came home to a war zone. tree and other rubbish all over. tree down next door. wind like ive only seen once before. 210mm rain in 24hrs. 400mm for march. drought over.
tried to take some footage a bit earlier showing strong winds at our place but as it is quite dark it proves GoPro Hero2 camera was/is shite at night. No image visible on camera even though I could see with naked eye. Ah well...
sure did rain. gold coast and nthn nsw in real trouble. huge damage. for you uk people, tweed valley, nsw to qld border, had londons annual rainfall in 24 hrs. have a google. amazing.
Thats a long way south of where the cyclone first made landfall. You are in that area arnt you Grog ? Hope you had no drama.
Heavy Rain in Qld ? Nothing new to see here....
By way of background - Mount Tamborine is a popular tourist spot with some great biking roads, in the Gold Coast hinterland. Down in Bov's part of the world....
This is the Joihn Muntz Causeway where the Tamborine-Oxenford Road crosses the Coomera River.
In 2010 and 2013 the John Muntz Causeway was badly flooded / and in 2013 largely destroyed, as you can see in the below video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StPuMApY0lw
So $15 Million was spent replacing the old causeway with a new bridge - strong and high enough to withstand extreme flood events.

It may not have been as effective as was hoped, based on this photo taken yesterday....

I wonder if it was insured.....
We got off lightly, this is at the bottom of our road.
There has been quite a bit of flooding but nothing on the scale the east coast of Aussie has suffered. Not the wind either.
Though there have been a lot of slips that have cut areas off.
That looks ugly Col! You're up the hill a bit from that I take it. Hope your hill stays where you left it!!
See Kaikoura is isolated again, road closures & more slips. Was hoping to go up this weekend to work on 1 of the quads, best I take a snorkel as well aye?
The roads in Central Queensland copped a hit. Check out the video here:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-04-05/cyclone-debbie-landslide-cuts-off-sarina-range/8417742
(you need to scroll down a bit to see it. It's under the 2nd photo).
There's no getting around it, the only that's going to be fixed is a cut into the hill so it's going to take a long time....
Seem like its getting worse south of us. Quite a lot of flooding along with slips closing state highway 2.
Yes Col we dont get anyone elses water. We have 2 x 30,000 litre tanks which are both overflowing.
We in NZ are being told to prepare for a severe weather event. The expected conditions have not been seen since the Wahine Inter Island Ferry disaster of April 1968.
Hmm, hope it works out ok....
Thanks Mike.
We should be ok, we dont catch anyone elses water, though our tanks are over flowing. Quite a few areas nearby have declared a state of emergency. The ground is so sodden.
Think i will put a blanket over the bike for easter.
