Title: Hi from Essex
Post by: DPGSX1400 on Thursday, 16 July 2026, 05:38 AM
Hi, just joined up. I've had my GSX1400 for a few months now. I bought it on Copart and have fixed it up. love how it rides and the torque compared to my GSXR 600 is insane! I had to replace the screen, handle bars, clutch lever and repair the ignition switch and wiring as it looks like someone tried to steal it hence why it went through insurance and then Copart. It's currently in bits as it died on me on the way to work Monday, and seems its not charging, well it does and doesn't so have got a stator and rectifier on order. Pics attached of when I picked it up from Copart Bristol.

G'day DP and welcome to the nuthouse 😝
That looks like quite the project.
We'll all be interested to see your progress 👍👍

GSXR600 to GSX1400 is a BIG change in most aspects, yes you're right the torque from these motors is unrivalled 😈

Welcome. They're a great everyday bike, and the smile you get from the grunt never wears off.

Gidday mate, welcome to the forum. Sure was a bit of a mess when you brought it, but you say it's back on the road now, cool. Lots of help on here should you need any.

Looks like its been down the road and not on the rubber either.

For some, that screen is naf, they look much better without

Evening that does look like it needs a bit of work, but they're worth it.

Welcome.

I'm envious, I'd love another project like that.

As others have said, the torque is a big selling point for the 14.  Several other bikes do make more, the 14 isn't a record breaker, but not bikes like the 14. They are either hypersports, big cruisers, huge tourers etc.

The beauty of the 14 is it make great torque in a classic styled bike, big tank, reasonably comfy seat, proper sized wheels etc.

Amongst its ZRX, CB, XJR alternatives the 14 is the one with the looks and the grunt.

I hope you post your progress.

Again, Welcome.
Tony.

Welcome Mate. Bit of a project but be worth it. First one I've seen with white engine cover, no idea why??

Hi everyone and thank you all for the warm welcome and replies! Sorry it's been a while I've been away. The bike is now on the road all fixed up apart from the not charging issue which I aim to sort this weekend. I like the screen although I can understand why most don't. In the end I had to replace the clutch lever and handle bars, along with the screen and repair all the wiring to the ignition barrel as it had been cut which then blew the main fuse too.

Looks great !!

I put a screen on my first 14 in 2002, I found it helped over 100 mph.

I have no need for one now in 2026,  :coffeescreen:

Wow, looks great. Is that a faster resto than Hooli's Bloo Thing?

I've got the same clear tailight with leds, mines a K3 that originally had a full red tail light.

Still not sure re the white engine covers.  Wheels look great, mine are in need of a repaint, will do the tank, tail and wheels all at the same time, original colours of course.

Well done mate

It could well be Eric, I didn't rush mine at all. It sat untouched for weeks at times.
