My mum has been admitted to palliative care at QE2 hospital yesterday after 10 days in Mater establishing her terminal cancer diagnosis.
It's shocked me to see such a rapid decline in a few short days.
My brother flew from UK last night and we visited her today with Bobbie in tow.
She woke several times and acknowledged us all so that made me happy. She said she's looking forward to reuniting with Dad 🙏🙏
Last photo is circa 1973-4 🤣
Been there myself a month ago Mate, thoughts are with you.
D.D.
All the best with it Chris. Bloody tough time.
Thank you Gents 🙏🙏
Mum has passed away quietly and in no pain to reunite with Dad 🙏🙏🙏🙏 RIP our wonderful Mum 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
I feel for ya Chris, losing loved ones is always hard, it comes to us all eventually. Dad was last year too wasn't it? Remember the positive.
Yes Col 22/02/2025 Bobbie and mine third wedding anniversary 🙄🙄
We're all in shock it's happened so quick but it's what she wanted. A very tenacious lady. The only woman I would allow to clip me around the ear when I stuffed up. 50kgs wringing wet but with an Irish temper 😢🥊.
We remembered a lot of good memories today and laughed and cried.
Sorry for your loss Chris. It's never easy to deal with the passing of a loved one.
Thoughts are with you Chris, I lost my dad a few years ago & it leaves a hole that is never filled in your life.
Our thoughts are with you Chris and your family :bugga:
Can only repeat what the others have said.
However, I believe that no one really dies, as long as you remember them.
My Mom died in 2012 but she's still in my head, giving me grief when I do things she wouldn't approve of. :happy1:
My condolences for your loss Chris.
Condolences mate, remembering a life well lived.
My condolences Chris, I know what you are going through, my mum died 2 years ago surrounded by her family.
So sorry for your loss Chris,,,thoughts with you knowing how you are feeling,,take care ,,
Sincere condolences Chris. Watching a loved one go through what your mother did is so hard as I lost my wife 8 years ago in similar circumstances. I'm suffering at the moment too as my 52 year old son decided three weeks ago that he'd had enough so jumped in front of a train.
My sincere condolences Chris - always so hard losing parents, my father passed back in 2003, my mother passed on Xmas Day back in 2016, still think of her every day, glad you and your brother got to see her before she passed, and that her passing was peaceful.

So sad Snapey, must be tough to deal with. I've had friends do similar but never family.Stick with it Mate👍
So sorry to hear that Snapey, condolences.
Unfortunately I am able to relate to Snapey. Heartfelt condolences to ya mate, it's bloody hard no denying it, but eventually, time helps heal the wound. It will never go away, just reduce.
Thanks guys for the kind words.
Oi....you must really be old feckers :sarcasm:
No.. my sincere thoughts do go out to you.
I am lucky / blessed.
My parents are still around, my inlaws are around, our daughter just turned 16.
So after reading this...
Guess most of you are no longer considered "actively working class" anymore.
If we took a group photo we'd look like Last of the Summer Wine crew!
Sorry for your loss Chris.
They do live on in the hearts of the ones they loved.
Sorry for you Pete, that's so sad.
Thank you Col
My condolences Chris to you and your family.

Wow!! Thats heavy going Snapey bloke
Sorry for your loss Chris
I don't normally add much to threads like this, I've lost a few folk I knew and loved in the last few years and have elderly parents I haven't seen in over 10 years.
I guess I'm living in denial at what's to come. Head in the sand.
Chris and Snapey, you still have my condolences.
Always sad to read threads like this, and definitely thought provoking.
You both have my commiserations.
It's been 1 week and I'm still a little in disbelief 🫢
I know that the grieving process is different for everyone however. :cry2:
It's early days Chris, so it's still very raw. Look after yourself.

It took me a year to get " Greatings to Nan" out of my system towards my parents. It is so weird to NOT have a loved one around you after this many years. They were a constant, a given, always there.
I can only imagine this being more present when this happens to your parents. :smitten:
It's over 4 years since I lost my dad, it's only recently I don't still think "oh I'll tell him about that when we speak next". It's not a quick process adjusting to them not being there.
Apologies bur belated sympathies to you and your family Chris, I'm away in Greece and just happened to log in.
Among lots more, simple things will remind you in years to come and make you smile.
Best wishes from this end, my thoughts are with you.
Catching up on forum posts and just read this thread.
Chris - condolences on the loss of your mum, mate.
Snapey - my heart breaks for you mate.
Not much I can offer to either of you other than keep fighting the good fight, and remember the no doubt MANY good times, to carry YOU through the dark ones.
Thank you gents it's only been a week but I don't even know where that week went it's been an absolute blur.
I'm fine I have my rock in Bobbie and my brother has worked through some stuff as we sorted through Mums hoard. Stamps and coins seemed to be high on her collector radar. I never knew of course. 😳
Quote from: GSXKING on Sunday, 28 June 2026, 08:27 PMI never knew of course. 😳
If it helps I never knew my parents met on a first aid course, until I sat in a pub with my mum & her best friend the day before my dad's funeral.

I remember my parents having a 50th wedding anniversary. A nice milestone event. They'd always had a wedding anniversary but I'd never really taken any notice of how many years and how many, it was never really mentioned.
We were celebrating this big 50th event and the penny dropped...
Hang on! I'm 50 myself in a couple of months!
They never mentioned that one!
My Sister did the family tree search thingo. Found out our Nanna&Pop were never married, my old man would turn in his grave if he knew🤷🏼Also my Auntie, was just someone my grandmother had met on the boat from UK. She was a 10 pound Pom. 😂

Is the family crest crossed shotguns. :whistling:
My brother Scott and I have been chasing through all the paperwork required to record a death ☠️.
Mum was definitely a hoarder of certain things 😳.
We're now going through old photos and the memories are flooding in. Scott is going to have them digitised and take a memory stick with them all back to Jersey C.I. where he lives.
Chris and Snapey, my condolences to you. Only updated on this thread now. I´m turning 59 next month and seeing all the loved ones go is a hell of a pain! I think it´s the worst sense of emptiness one can endure.
I accompany you in the feeling.
I've also been through something similar and revive feelings.
It is very important that he has left without suffering.
Perfect image of family unity in such strong moments
Now little by little return to mental calm..........

We interred Dad and Mums ashes at their favourite holiday spot. Kingscliff in northern NSW.
Scott came up with the heart idea.
We put Dads ashes on his side and Mums on hers then closed it over. The tide will come in shortly and disperse those. The ashes we had left we scattered on the water as it came in.
I spoke my poem and felt very teary 🥲
A heart felt and very personal send off Chris. Well done mate.

Thank you Greg I'm still coming to terms with both of them not here physically. A cloudy day and skies cleared for sun to beam down on them.
I'm a Buddhist so hope they're in a higher plain now 🙏🙏✅
What a great finale Chris, you & Scott have done a great job, peaceful & respectful and in a place that means a lot. Our wish is for our ashes to be scattered to the sea. I hate death and funerals, too many close ones, but as we age, the more they come around.
A fitting tribute. :smitten:
Glad the day went well, the memories of your loved ones will make you smile forever.
All the best.
