Title: Sliders
Post by: grog on Thursday, 18 June 2026, 04:33 PM
My fork sliders still original but showing their age, not bad but annoying. I know all the options, polish or paint basically. My question, if I use a fine scotchbrite pad, can this make them look decent again, anyone done that.I quite like the original finish, if that can be achieved all good. Thanks👍

The lacquer is so thin on the sliders @grog that anything abrasive will just take the lacquer off.

If they are not too bad, personally I'd get them as clean as possible and then cover the leading edge in 50mm helicopter tape to prevent them deteriorating further from any stone chips etc.

Went over them with Meguiars scratch x, not perfect but certainly better than they were. On my list for next time they're out.

Forks out soon, shop will service, new seals, new oil $300. Reckon that's a bargain.7.5 oil this time, touch lighter. Paint sliders with charcoal hammerite, been on my list a while, match engine bars.

Should look good mate, I've got 10W oil in now (I think), seals a genuine Suzuki, no leaks.
