Title: Mutchy’s Black K5 getting boost
Post by: Mutchy on Tuesday, 09 June 2026, 05:20 PM
Hi all,

Thought I'd put up a bit of a build on my bike and what's been done so far. The bike is a k5 and beautiful in black  ;). I picked the bike up as a tidy standard example with the intention to make it a fast cruiser.

Before I picked the bike up I had already been doing some research on here (thanks to all the members who have put such a comprehensive library on these bikes on here)

Once I got the bike I was a bit let down on the performance of the bike, don't jump on me yet there's been a reason for that. Figured it was because I had moved from a Z H2 previous to it and I'd get use to it. First on the list was to order a power commander and some Yoshi ST-1 cams to give it a bit more up top. I fitted the PC6 and we tried to baseline the bike on the dyno before the mods started.

While trying to dyno the bike, we couldn't get it to repeat runs and had constant issues with it leaning out. We put it down to fuel pump/filter/sock. I inspected the tank and all looked clean with a bore scope so pulled the tank and found the sock covered in crud. Given that we were going to make it fast, I've taken the opportunity to order a Deatchworks pump and carried out the HP filter bypass and installed an inline filter. I also took the opportunity to remove the PAIRS set up.

In 2 weeks the Yoshi cams will be fitted (not something I'm quite ready to attempt myself so having a mechanic complete for me) and once the new fuel pump arrives we will try again to dyno and see what gains can be had.

While all this is happening I've placed an order with TTS for their supercharger kit to fit for the bike, it should be about a 3 month wait, hence the reference of being boosted in the title.

I'll continue to update as I go through and post some results of what we make at the various steps but let me know any thoughts.

Lookin good Mate. Those DW pumps seem a good idea, not expensive. Sort it out, fit the hair dryer, youll be happy. Ive ridden my Mates with super, just over 200 hp, amazing linear power. Last i heard he had it stripped down looking for 300, his family just live n breathe hot ups. Good luck with it.

The TTS test bike stock with Yoshi cams went 219hp so anywhere around the 200 mark I'd be stoked with.

The DW pump i should be able to make work easy enough, I was blown away with what a stock Suzuki pump and HP filter costs. Can always explore corn juice for it later down the road if I like with the pump too

200Bhp at the crank would be awesome.

I read someplace that the stock crank is good for about 160bhp, so are you looking at upgrades in that area too?

Nothing planned for the crank at this stage. Most people seem to say the weak point is the rods. I guess we will find out. Plenty of set ups have been running much more power for many years, with the low comp these engines run and only 10psi it shouldn't be too bad.

This is a link to the supercharger kit TTS make.

With potentially 200hp and no traction control intervention, what measures are you taking to control the delivery ?

My right wrist at this stage, may look into maxecu later on if needed. Part of the reason I went supercharger over turbo is the linear power delivery. I've had 3 bikes previously all over 200hp with varying levels of technology and I'm still here  for now anyway

You do raise a valid point but a lot of people shouldn't ride with that power level.
