Title: Phone mount and charger
Post by: VladTepes on Monday, 11 May 2026, 01:22 PM
I have a Garmin Zumo 595 GPS which has been great as has the easy connect/disconnect bracket and wired for charger. Unfortunately, the power switch has now broken and while I might be able to fix that it's possible that could compromise the waterproof nature of it.
The other problem is that the street maps are getting quite dated and they aren't really doing updates.

I think the best solution might bs some sort of bracket to hold my phone, ideally with a built in charger hardwired to the bike.  I have a Samsung S23 Ultra.

So - what phone solutions do people have for their bikes? All advice. experiences and links welcome :)

Check out quadlock and their mag head mount and chargers.  I have the basic quadlock on my MTB and GSX1400 (no charging), the wireless charging magnet head in the landy and the wireless anti-vibe mount on the BMW.

Secure, stable and charges fine.  They have lots of adapters and very good service.

I had the USB chaege port fail on the bmw, they sent me a new one same day as it happened, no questions asked.

You will need the phone case, but they're good too and protect the phone very well. Lost track how many times I've dropped the phone, no damage.  I've got a Samsung S24

I have Quadlocks on all mine.
Stem mounts, bar mounts, mirror mounts (fit the Renthal / DRZ cross brace)
Huge list of fitting kits and options, anti vibe, charging etc etc.
From top gear testing on the H2 and Busa's to bouncing the DRZ about on corrugated roads I've never had a drama.
I won't use anything else.

(I only use iPhones though as I don't pay the bill, not sure what the range of cases are like for others)

Can ytou still use the phone screen (ie for GPS) when the phone is in the phone case you mention?

That's the main reason I have mine.

Yup use the phone as normal. A few mates have quadlocks and if I was going for a phone mount I'd do the same.

Yes, you use the screen for GPS as per normal.  I connect mine to  SENA when im going somewhere unknown so I get voice prompts, saves looking down at the screen too much, especially in suburbia.

I've got one of these

for an S24 Ultra.  I've also got the small version as I brought the wrong one first & the phone doesn't fit in it!!   So if you do decide to get one of these Vlad, get the large one, pretty sure the S23 & S24 are about the same size.
I got this because it's waterproof & charges the phone while being used as a GPS & you can still use the screen with the cover closed.   It was cheap enough, more so than the quadlock system. Mind you the Galaxy phones are waterproof anyway, so maybe no need for a fully enclosed case?

To a point, yes, better thsn iPhone anyway. I got caught in a brief shower on the 1402 last week coming home.  Message on the S24 about water detected in the usb-c charge port. Blow out gently with dry compressed air and all ok. An iPhone would have shut down i reckon.  Quadlock also sells clear plastic ponchos for the phone face that seals them, but then you can't see anything on the screen.

I use Peak Design PD (https://www.peakdesign.com/eu/collections/phone-mounts) and from a lotta reviews they surpass Quad Lock. Seems to be an AU distributor down there https://blonde-robot.com.au/our-brands/peak-design/. I use the one without charger, but they do have a cabled one. I´ve got other stuff from this brand, not cheap, but lifetime guarantee and every product has even got serial number for registration. Love their bags. Since I´ve got an iphone I use the anti vibration one, ´cause this phone is prone to camera lens misaligment. Check if that´s the case for your phone.

So checking the options charging version of mount with phone case
Quadlock: $340-
Peak design $426-

The quadlock is def the best value.

I cant even open up the Garmin to see if its fixable, the screws are TINY even my jewellers screwdriver set struggled to get two of them out - more good luck than good management. Would need to buy a specialist tool kit and best case scenario I could bodge fix a device which cannot be upgraded with new maps. Last maps available for this device are >5 years old at this point.

Using an Quadlock, even with the vibration dampener my phone camera now shakes uncontrollably. I use an iPhone 10, when I get a new phone I will hotspot the old one and only use that on the bike.

Apple products notoriously sensitive to vibration.  I have the std mount on the 14, and the vibration dampener on the bmw.  No issues with the phone though.

I have a vibe damper mount on my DRZ, but not on my 14, B- King or Busa's.  I use Apple phones. Never had a problem, but it's very common to hear that folk have. Maybe I just got lucky.

Never had a problem on the HD, but then my phone lives in my pocket on any bike.

Well I've fitted the quadlock stuff and wired it up - now just need to test it on a ride :)

Same as.

Although Jane has persuaded me to invest in SENA comms to link our lids (i think it's in case she gets lost). The SENA works via Bluetooth, so could link the phone but choose not to.

I fitted a Quadlock anti-vibe mount to my DRZ. Single cylinder, gets thrown about a bit.

I've never used one before though. Many years of iPhones on the GSX14, B-King, Busa's etc and never a drama.

I've been talked into an intercom by my usual riding partner too. I wouldn't link anyone else to it though!

Mine is linked to my phone as I downloaded about 900 songs to it, to copy to hers when she went on holiday. I'm surprised how much I tend to listen to music when riding now as I never thought I'd want too before.

I love my SENA, I listen to music, take phone calls etc when out riding. Mrs usually rings when I'm on a Sunday ride just to check all is good, and then asks if I bring home some milk....

He sure has!   Clean bike, chrome bits and polish everywhere even a flash paint job and asking Barmy for cleaning tips!!   Now with Sena bluetooth and 900 songs to play, and new boots.  next thing he'll be cutting the weeds down as well!  :onya:  :stir:

If the green bits do start to be cut down, we'll know that Invasion of the Body Snatchers is real.  It looks like Hooli, it sounds like Hooli, but is it really Hooli??  Guess we'd have to wait & see if he still strips Stroppy down in the kitchen & Lounge.  :happy1:
