Hey guys
Just planning a trip later in the year on the GSX14 and thinking of changing my rear shocks. They work fine but one of the adjusters is seized and in my haste to loosen it ive damaged it. Its been like that for a year now but obviously means no adjustment so looking at options.
Anyone selling any rear shocks or have other suggestions?
Thanks guys
They're quite a serviceable unit mate. If you've got a good shop near you they should be able to get them done in house or recommend a suspension shop.
GAZ, Hagon on your UK eBay, £240, looks a bargain but I'm not sure how Hagon rate on a 14.Here that would be about same price to have originals rebuilt.
I've not heard anything bad about Hagons & known several people happy running them.
Personally, I'll be trying to find a place to rebuild the OE shocks as I like the piggy back look. Following this thread with interest as I found out that Mk2's rear shocks where shot last week so they need sorting. There's a rebuild kit for them on ebay but it's £40 per shock for a couple of bits of rubber.
If going for Hagon shocks it is the Nitro's that are best for a 14, they will also make and set them up to suit your height, weight and riding style. I have had them on a couple of 14's and couldn't fault them to be fair
The last time I tried to get the originals professionally refurbished none of the big suspension Co's were interested, they blamed it on availability of the seals but I was working for a hydraulic company at the time and used a supplier in the North East, who could make pretty much any size & type of seal so I think the other suppliers just wanted to sell new overpriced alternatives
I found one suspension specialist in Preston who was willing to strip and rebuild, link below but this was a good 5 years ago at least. I ended up buying a later set of shocks off a 2006 bike and swapped the red springs for my original silver springs, just to try and keep the bike in original trim. The shocks with red springs were less prone to leak than the earlier ones with silver springs due to upgraded seals being used in them
If the adjusters are stuck then there is a good chance that the piston has come off the adjuster from being over adjusted There is a small pin that retains the adjuster in place on the bottom side of the adjuster chamber, it is possible to remove this by filing around the pin, it can then be gripped with long nose pliers & removed to gain access to the adjuster & chamber, assembly is reverse & i put a small smear of araldite over the pin just to make sure it didn't come out again unless I wanted it to
If the shocks are leaking, there is a small torx screw on the back of each shock, this can be removed, any residual oil drained and a heavier oil put back in using a syringe. I used engine oil which was thicker and didn't pass the seals, maybe need to put a bit of oil in, replace the torx screw and turn the adjuster to remove any air a few times before full adjustment was achieved, pretty straight forward though
