Title: Cyclone Vaianu
Post by: KiwiCol on Sunday, 12 April 2026, 09:50 AM
I see the cyclone is right in the Bay of Plenty now, heard there's 4,000 homes in Tauranga without power.  Hope you're all tucked up ok Kiwifruit.

Is this the first time you've encountered a cyclone in UNzed ?

My little brother in Cooks Beach has been very lucky thus far thankfully. Hasn't even lost power yet. Slipped south of him the lucky bugger.

Stay safe all.

Not too bad here Col. Hasn't been as bad as the storm that caused the massive landslide at Mt Maunganui recently. I read that a wave height of 11.4m was recorded at the Port of Tauranga this afternoon . Surfing anyone ? It's been wet and windy, we also lost a smallish tree that I've cut up and moved away from the road. We've had time to put things away clean gutters and  clear drains.
Pleased they cancelled our ACC Ride Forever training course. It's not a motorcycling day that's for sure.

What's the bet that this one crosses the Tasman then hits Qld before continuing on its way to WA....
