Gidday Leew, it'll be the sender unit in the tank has crudded up.  You could try taking it out & cleaning the contacts & see if that helps, else you're up for a replacement sender unit I'd say.

My sender did the same & I took it out & put the whole thing into an ultrasonic cleaner & cycled it a couple of times. It's more or less worked as the fuel level on the clocks displays most of the time now, just a bit slow at starting up but always displays after a short while.

BTW, there's an Intro section where we prefer new members to do an intro to the group, tell us a bit about yourself, your bikes & riding experience & that sort of thing.  Here's a link to it, https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?board=20.0

Before you bother opening the tank, check the connections to the sender unit. You get that if it's unplugged. There's small multiplug under the tank as well as the one you see under the side panel that links the tank. I've had the earth wires rot off from the connections to the tank too.

As said though, an intro is considered polite here.
