Title: Aus MotoGP moving ?
Post by: GSXKING on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, 05:27 AM
Victoria has some serious financial issues and this statement from the boss says it all.
I'm unsure how a MotoGP bike avoids concrete barriers such street circuits require runoff.

Total shame. Race track equal to any but all other facilities, rider& spectator terrible.A lot of good write ups around of troubles they've had. Council, State Govt, done bugger all to help. Not just a track but an Aussie icon,so sad.

Damn shame. We went to our first MotoGP on the island 20 years ago this year as part of our honeymoon. We've been many times for MotoGP and WSBK since. I'm yet to be convinced that a street circuit for 350km/h bikes is a good move.

I've even done a couple of track days when I've ridden down in the past. Lap times a little lacking on road tyres with 1800km to ride home but an awesome experience nonetheless.

I booked accommodation the moment I heard this was to be the last hurrah. Check in Thursday and out Monday, nothing under $1800 for only two people. Saw some on Airbnb that were over $15k for the same timeframe. Jack Miller addressed the move and mentioned the cost of heading to the island as a major issue re attendance numbers. Seems he's not wrong so we'll see if Adelaide is an improvement.

Not a huge, MotoGP fan myself but watch it, now and again. The Island was Iconic and always, a great race. Popular with the riders, so I'd heard. Shame.

Sad to see such an iconic track go to waste, went to a few WSBK and GPs when I lived in vic, was always great.

Sad to not have the investment needed to continue this world class circuit at the level required.

Yeah I loved going to the Island to watch. Can't see Adelaide working from the proposal I've seen so far. Street circuit? Has anyone asked the riders? If they wanted to be unsafe they'd ride the TT on IoM, not MotoGP.  I'm worried this has the potential to risk Australia not having a race at all.

Also I see this post is in the introductions forum so I'll sort that out...
