Title: Farewelled a faithful old friend today
Post by: GSXKING on Thursday, 05 February 2026, 05:33 PM
I'm estimating this bag is possibly 28/29 years old. I owned it prior to purchasing my GSX in October 2001.
It looks well used and certainly has traveled many thousands of kilometres and sat in the sun for many days. Phil from Hi-Side leather repairs replaced most of the zips (I had to unpick them all, most frustrating job ever).
Its waterproofness left many years ago.
However it's never let me down.
The only reason I'm replacing it is the zips have degraded once again and I won't bore you with Phil's advice of combining sex and travel if I wanted him to repair or replace the zips again. I did hear the word "tight arse" as well.
Any way I ordered a replacement Monday night and it arrived Wednesday afternoon. You can see the difference in looks and the fabric is far superior with multilayers and waterproof membrane. Comes with a rain coat and a shoulder strap.
First test will be tomorrow morning.
