Title: What size Rivet
Post by: Uncle-P on Sunday, 18 January 2026, 01:47 AM
Pretty self explanatory, I've picked up a new rear fender I was going to fit up. What size is the rivet pictured? Is it just a regular 1/8th?

From memory I think I used a 3mm bolt to replace though as they'd rusted through on mine & I figured a bolt would take a lot longer to do so.

From memory I used a 3mm rivet when I replaced mine some years back, but I think Hooli's solution of using a 3mm bolt (with perhaps some 243 Loctite on the nut) is a better way of affixing it

Use a Niloc nut with the bolt.

I also used a bolt and nyloc nut

I think the other reason I used bolts was I replaced the broken rivet without removing it all from the bike & there was no way to get a rivet gun in.

To put a rivet there is a shite idea that makes only sense if you put this together in a production line and you don't care what happens later. The contraption loosened on mine over time. Replaced with bolt stuff when a good opportunity for easy access arose. Been so long ago that I should take look at it to confirm it's still tight. Too cold for that atm.

Yea fair enough. I've got a smaller rivet gun for my old trade as a roofer and I'm used to snapping them off in tight places ;)  :salute:  (bus driver now)
